Mahershala Ali Admits He Doesn’t “Know Where Marvel Is at Right Now” After ‘Blade’ Delays

On Monday, Mahershala Ali graced the red carpet in New York, showing his support for his recently released movie “Jurassic World Rebirth”. During this event, he also discussed updates about his upcoming Marvel film, “Blade”.

Ever since I first learned about the vampire thriller back in 2019, it seems like it’s been a rollercoaster ride. Two different directors have stepped away from the project, and even with Ali on board as the star, things haven’t moved smoothly. The actors’ and writers’ strikes didn’t help, nor did Disney adjusting their studio strategy. Last year, it was completely taken off the 2025 theatrical calendar, leaving fans like me in limbo.

At the screening of “Jurassic”, Ali shared with The Hollywood Reporter that regarding the role of Blade, he’s focusing on each day as it comes and doing his best work. He mentioned that the upcoming film “Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother” provided a challenge for his stunt skills. However, he also expressed hope for Blade, stating, “I genuinely wish for it to materialize; I’m unsure of Marvel’s current plans. I’m simply seeking the next remarkable role, and that’s what I truly desire.

Regarding the recent Jurassic film where he co-stars with Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey, Ali expressed that one of his favorite aspects of making such an expansive production was witnessing its completion.

The films of this kind are challenging to produce due to their unique filming methods, which often involve shooting a single scene across multiple countries over several months. Therefore, as an actor, I wouldn’t necessarily describe the experience as enjoyable because it’s tough and can be confusing. Instead, what makes it rewarding is trusting that everything will come together well in the end. The most satisfying part is ultimately completing the project and witnessing the excellent work the director, Gareth Edwards, did during post-production.

Jurassic World Rebirth hits theaters July 2.
