Mahershala Ali’s Shocking Take on the Jurassic World: Rebirth Finale Explained!

Major spoilers for Jurassic World Rebirth lie ahead, so read on at your own discretion.

Jurassic World: Reborn – the newest addition to the Jurassic Saga – has arrived, and it presents viewers with a fresh group of characters. True to form, these new leads find themselves in potentially dangerous dinosaur-related predicaments. Towards the end of the movie, there appears to be the death of one character; however, in an unexpected turn of events, this plot point receives a hopeful resolution. Mahershala Ali recently shared his thoughts on the matter with TopMob.

As the final act of “Rebirth” unfolds, I, along with Zora Bennett, Duncan Kincaid, Dr. Henry Loomis, and the Delgado family, make one last ditch effort to flee the treacherous Ile Saint-Hubert. We manage to locate a boat, but our celebration is short-lived as the monstrous D. Rex confronts us. In a desperate bid to save us all, Duncan uses a flare to lead the beast away. The ensuing encounter leaves Duncan face to face with this colossal creature, seemingly poised for an attack. However, just as we’re about to set sail, we spot another flare and reunite with Duncan, who valiantly swims towards us, determined to join our escape.

Frankly, I wasn’t certain about anyone else, but I genuinely believed Duncan was finished before that unexpected twist. However, during an interview with Mahershala Ali and his castmates Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey by TopMob’s Hannah Saulic, the ending turned out to be surprisingly optimistic. While Bailey and Johansson playfully discussed how Ali’s character managed to survive the D. Rex encounter, the Academy Award-winning actor proposed a more logical explanation for his character’s survival.

I believe he dove… I believe he deceived… The firework fizzled out, and I suspect he submerged himself beneath the water and swiftly swam off at high speed.

It’s possible, and it certainly seems plausible, that the scenario where Duncan actually survives is more likely than the humorous theory put forth by Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey suggesting he was a clone. Intriguingly, Mahershala Ali also thought Duncan had perished, as he shared during an interview. It appears that Ali didn’t delve into this matter with director Gareth Edwards either. Whether we’ll ever get a definitive answer remains uncertain, but I must admit, I was delighted to discover that Duncan managed to make it back to the group.

The character of Duncan Kincaid stands out as one of the strongest aspects in the film adaptation of Jurassic Park, a comparison David Koepp made to Rebirth in certain ways. Although the movie excels in its depiction of dinosaurs and grandeur, it also highlights human relationships. Duncan is a man who mourns the loss of his child, which makes him ready to face danger to safeguard the group, particularly the Delgado children.
