Mahesh Bhatt reveals Parveen Babi was married to man who left and never returned while they were dating: ‘We were already…’

As a lifestyle guide, I’d rephrase it like this: In my past, I, much like the iconic figure Parveen Babi, have faced profound personal struggles, particularly with mental health concerns. During a period when I was involved romantically, I was still married to Kiran Bhatt. It wasn’t until later in our relationship that I learned about Parveen’s past marriage. Interestingly, her husband had moved to Pakistan and never returned, a fact she had kept hidden before our romance began.

During an interview with BBC News Hindi, Mahesh Bhatt is said to have shared that he discovered Parveen Babi was previously married only after their romance had already started. He mentioned that Parveen seldom discussed it herself, but the subject occasionally arose during her mother’s visits from Junagadh.

As per Bhatt’s account, she often heard from her mother that Parveen was previously married and her spouse relocated to Pakistan, never returning since then. These conversations transpired during a period when Bhatt was residing with Parveen.

In the year 2003, during a trip to Pakistan for a film festival, Mahesh Bhatt learned that someone desired to speak with him, though his schedule didn’t allow for such a meeting at the time.

He made it clear that he hadn’t refused the meeting, instead, it just didn’t materialize for some reason. Looking back at the incident, he acknowledged that he had sometimes pondered why that person wanted to meet him, given that he was someone who rarely turned down meetings with others.

It is said that, during his marriage to Kiran and while being the father of Pooja Bhatt, Mahesh Bhatt was involved in a romantic relationship with Parveen Babi.

In a previous interview with The Times of India, he looked back on that time, confessing that the poor performance of his movies at the box office put a strain on his marriage with Kiran, and he was emotionally and physically attracted to another woman.

Apart from confessing that the circumstances became unmanageable for him, it’s known that Parveen endured several emotional crises, which she described as highly distressing and lasting approximately two and a half years. She disclosed that these personal hardships were reflected in her film Arth. Tragically, Parveen Babi passed away at the age of 50 in 2005.
