As a dedicated follower of Mallika Sherawat‘s career and life journey, I find her recent revelations about her experiences in the Indian film industry both shocking and inspiring. It is disheartening to hear about such blatant objectification and sexism that she has faced, especially during her time working in the South industry. However, it is also heartening to see her standing up against such behavior and speaking out against it.
Mallika Sherawat, famously recognized for her role in Murder (2004), recently reappeared in Raaj Shaandilyaa’s newly-unveiled film project, Vicky Aur Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video. This actress has been attracting attention due to the disclosures she’s made about her career journey in the Indian movie industry. Lately, Mallika Sherawat disclosed a surprising anecdote from the South film industry, stating that a director once suggested a hero would prepare rotis on her waist.
During an interview with Hauterrfly, Mallika Sherawat shared insights into her collaboration with a Southern filmmaker. She reminisced about a particular scene where she was filming a song, when a director requested her to display her attractiveness.
In this song, I was singing. A director approached me and said, ‘Madam, we’re planning to demonstrate your attractiveness.’ I responded, ‘Alright.’ He then added, ‘So, what will happen in this scene? The hero will be making chapattis on your waist.’ (The actress from Murder explained the scene where the director intended to portray her attractiveness, with the hero pretending to make chapattis on her waist.)
She remarked, “Could you picture it? That’s what they thought represented a woman’s attractiveness.” The actress who starred in the video titled “Vicky Aur Vidya Ka Woh Wala Song” recalled the director explaining to her that it was an essential scene for the song.
Mallika revealed that she declined the role and shared that it doesn’t work for her.
During an interview with Ranveer, Mallika Sherawat discussed the importance of diplomacy for actors in order to seize opportunities within the industry.
Actress Mallika from Haryana mentioned that in the film industry, actors need to be tactful, or else they might miss out on opportunities. She also pointed out that mastering the art of flattery (often referred to as “chamchagiri”) is a common strategy for getting roles, but she personally can’t do it and isn’t willing to learn.
Apart from her role as a leading actress, she has also appeared in various films such as “Darna Zaroori Hai”, “Kis Kis Ki Kismat”, “Maan Gaye Mughal-e-Azam”, “Welcome”, “Pyaar Ke Side Effects”, “Ugly Aur Pagli”, “Thank You”, “Double Dhamaal” and several others.
Vicky Aur Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video hit the screens on October 11.
