In a surprising turn of events, the iconic ’90s Bollywood personality, Mamta Kulkarni, has found herself back in the spotlight. The reason? She’s planning to renounce worldly pleasures at the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 with the Kinnar Akhara, marking a significant shift in her spiritual life. In a candid reflection, she shared that re-entering the film industry no longer seems feasible or appealing to her, finding it hard to envision such a path.
During an interview with India Today, Mamta Kulkarni expressed that the idea of returning to acting is something she finds hard to envision. In her words, “I simply cannot fathom acting in movies anymore. It’s entirely out of reach for me at this point.
From my heart, I can’t help but reminisce about my profound spiritual journey. It’s as if receiving the title of Mahamandaleshwar from the Kinnar Akhada has been like triumphing in the Olympics, a victory that comes after 23 years of relentless devotion.
As a devoted admirer, I found myself irresistibly captivated by the Akhada’s portrayal of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati in their Ardhnareshwar form, coupled with its profound emphasis on liberation. I am deeply grateful for the divine blessing bestowed upon me by Goddess Adishakti, allowing me to be a part of this remarkable honor.
Pondering on life’s fundamentals, Mamta Kulkarni conveyed that while enjoyment and worldly desires are aspects of existence, spirituality is a journey one can traverse only with good fortune. Comparatively, she referenced Prince Siddhārtha, who ultimately became Lord Buddha, demonstrating how he experienced all life had to offer before deciding to undergo transformation.
More casually: Recently, Mamta Kulkarni made headlines by joining monastic life at the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, officially joining the Kinnar Akhara. She conducted a traditional ancestral offering (pind daan) at the Sangam and was later honored as the Mahamandaleshwar of the Akhara.
In her new spiritual position, she took on the name Shri Yamai Mamta Nand Giri. The title of Mahamandaleshwar, which she received within the Dashanami order, is a highly respected honor given to revered Hindu monks who are tasked with upholding and propagating Sanatan Dharma.
Back in an interview with ANI, the legendary Mamta Kulkarni opened up about her decision, attributing it to none other than the divine will of Mahadev and Maha Kaali, and the enlightened guidance of my revered Guru. I couldn’t help but feel that every aspect, even the timing, was meticulously planned as part of a cosmic design beyond human control.
Mamta Kulkarni, known for her memorable roles in Bollywood classics like Karan Arjun, had been absent from the public limelight for some time. However, her latest choice to embark on a spiritual journey with the Kinnar Akhara signifies a significant change in her life, guiding her towards a fresh and life-altering phase.
