Marathon’s Minimum PC Specs Are in and They’re Good News for Most Players

Bungie has publicly unveiled the base PC requirements for Marathon, and it’s evident that their goal is to ensure a wide range of players can join in from the start.

If you’ve had concerns about whether your system would measure up, you should feel reassured – the standards aren’t exceptionally high. The forthcoming alpha test of the game (commencing on April 23) won’t demand a state-of-the-art computer setup.

Based on Bungie’s statement on X and their official guidance, computers that fall within the mid-range gaming category from the last 5 to 6 years are generally suitable for use.

The aim seems simple enough: let as many people in as possible without needing a hardware upgrade.

This game is an intelligent pick for a multiplayer shooter that aims to be distinctive, and here are the basics Bungie recommends you have on hand:

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-6600 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (4 GB), AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT (4 GB), or Intel Arc A580 (8 GB)
  • VRAM: 4 GB
  • DirectX: Version 12 with Feature Level 12_1
  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit with the latest service pack

Just a friendly reminder: Bungie notes that some Intel Arc graphics cards may not function optimally. If you’re currently relying on this hardware, it could be wise to hold off and observe whether early users encounter any compatibility problems.

Given all factors, it’s quite astonishing that this baseline is a relatively humble selection for a competitive online shooting game in the year 2025.

It’s clear that Bungie is intentionally designing games like Marathon to be compatible with less advanced systems, likely catering to a wider range of players, since they are making an effort to differentiate it from Destiny.

From now until the launch on September 23, or exclusively for ‘the alpha’, Bungie’s upcoming venture invites everyone who’s interested to take a peek.
