Margot Robbie Continued A Sweet Tradition She Had On Barbie With Ryan Gosling As Producer On My Old Ass

As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for coming-of-age comedies and a knack for discerning the hidden gems among blockbusters, I can confidently say that Margot Robbie has earned her title as the ultimate dream producer in Hollywood. Her thoughtful gestures on set, such as the daily presents she bestowed upon the cast and crew of “My Old Ass,” are nothing short of heartwarming and indicative of a rare breed of professionalism.

Beyond portraying our ideal Barbie in the 2023 Greta Gerwig film, it’s also worth noting that Margot Robbie is quite the production powerhouse in reality. The latest project from her company, LuckyChap Productions, is the coming-of-age comedy “My Old Ass,” featuring Aubrey Plaza and newcomer Maisy Stella. During an interview with TopMob about the most recent film showing in theaters, the director revealed a thoughtful act by Robbie on set that was very much Barbie-like.

Megan Park penned and helmed the film titled “My Old Ass“, which seamlessly blends sincerity and humor. The story revolves around Elliott (Stella), a high school senior, who, during a mushroom trip with friends, summons her older self (Plaza). In our conversation, Park disclosed some insights about Margot Robbie’s role as a producer on set, using these words:

Each day, she would present me with a gift upon my arrival, as she had transformed my bunkie into her office during the day. She often swept the floor for me, ensuring I returned to a clean environment. In essence, she said, “I wanted you to come home to a nice, clean space,” and my response was, “I truly appreciate that. Thank you so much!” Her generosity and thoughtfulness never cease to amaze me.

Margot Robbie seems to consistently set a high standard for film producers all by herself. Given her role as Barbie, this shouldn’t come as a shock. When I heard Park’s comments, they reminded me of something Ryan Gosling said about Robbie during the production of Barbie. As shared by Variety, here is his quote:

Every day during our filming sessions, Barbie would leave me a pink-themed present, seemingly intended for Ken. Items like seashells or beach signs with surf-related phrases were common. I’ve always been puzzled about what exactly Ken does on the beach, but it felt like those gifts were a subtle attempt to clarify things for him.

It’s adorable that Margot Robbie carried on her present-giving custom during the filming of “My Old Ass“. Interestingly, it wasn’t only Ryan Gosling’s character Ken who received special treatment, as he had previously spoken about receiving daily gifts from Robbie. Clearly, Margot seems to enjoy spreading joy and gifts on set. Megan Park also commented on her working relationship with Robbie in a similar vein.

Working with LuckyChap is simply outstanding. It’s no surprise they consistently earn repeat business from their directors. They are indeed ideal producers. Not only was Margot Robbie part of our recent project, but she embodies the perfect combination of understanding actors’ needs and supporting directors, while also contributing significantly to the script. To top it off, she made the entire experience enjoyable. I can’t wait to collaborate with her on my next film and television production. In essence, that sums up my sentiments.

Even though it’s unclear which future collaborative projects Megan Park and Margot Robbie might be involved in, it’s not unexpected that they’re working together again since Robbie has teamed up with her colleagues before, such as with Emerald Fennell on both “Promising Young Woman” and “Saltburn.” In fact, she’s gearing up to share the screen with Ryan Gosling in an upcoming “Ocean’s” prequel film.

Despite its seemingly crude title, “My Old Ass” is actually a heartwarming film to watch. The story revolves around Elliott, who seeks to apply her older self’s advice on living life better after being alarmed by her 39-year-old counterpart being a childless grad student. However, the most challenging guidance for Elliott to heed comes from a young man named Chad, whom Plaza’s character advises against getting close to, despite the teenager appearing harmless. “My Old Ass” is currently showing in theaters.
