As a movie enthusiast with a penchant for uncovering hidden gems, I must say Maria Bakalova has been a breath of fresh air in the film industry lately. Her versatility, from portraying Ivana Trump in “The Apprentice” to voicing Princess Ilana Rostovic in “Creature Commandos,” is truly commendable.
I, Maria Bakalova, am finding myself in a whirlwind of exciting new film and television projects. Recently, you might have heard me as Princess Ilana Rostovic in the animated series, Creature Commandos, which is part of James Gunn’s highly anticipated DCU reboot on Max. Earlier this year, I had the privilege of portraying Ivana Trump in The Apprentice, a role that has garnered two Golden Globe nominations. Up next, I’ll be starring alongside Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh in Mayday, an action-packed film directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein.
In her recent interview with MovieWeb, Bakalova expressed that she has been fortunate to collaborate with exceptional individuals. They are not just exceptionally skilled and proficient professionals, but also genuinely kind people.
[Ryan] has been incredibly helpful, welcoming, and quite hilarious. Working with him and Kenneth Branagh, who is almost like a national British treasure, has felt like an unexpected treat. The opportunity to collaborate with both of them has been truly remarkable. To add to that, this film is an action-adventure movie, making it my second one following ‘Dirty Angels‘.
In a daring exploration mission deep within Soviet lands, a lieutenant finds himself in a perilous situation, forced to crash-land and survive in the harsh Russian wilderness. The unexpected turn? His capture or rescue is strictly forbidden. After her role in “Mayday”, Bakalova might have reconsidered her preference for film genres. She mentioned:
I’m genuinely developing an affection for this [action] genre, despite my previous lack of knowledge about it. This is because I was accustomed to the concept of intense, profound, and dramatic performances – particularly in Scandinavian and Danish films. However, as I delved deeper, I found myself immersed in grand action hero adventures, and I must say, it’s quite enjoyable.
Maria Bakalova Heads into New Territory with Dirty Angels
Her fame has been growing since she acted alongside Sacha Baron Cohen in the 2020 mockumentary film “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm”. Prior to her roles in “Creature Commandos” and “Dirty Angels”, she had already collaborated with Gunn on “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”.
Regarding this film, Bakalova is eagerly anticipating the public’s reaction to “Dirty Angels.” Led by Eva Green, this high-octane movie features Green as a weary military operative who joins forces with a predominantly female commando unit to rescue young girls held captive in Afghanistan. Martin Campbell, known for “Casino Royale,” directs. Bakalova portrays a sharp-witted bomb specialist. Get ready for some thrilling action sequences!
