Marissa Bode And Ethan Slater Tell Us The Wicked Song They Can’t Get Out Of Their Heads, And It's Not The One I Would Have Guessed

As a seasoned gamer and musical enthusiast who’s seen more Broadway shows than I can count on my fingers and toes, let me tell you that I’m absolutely thrilled about the upcoming release of Wicked. The hype surrounding this iconic musical is palpable, and I’ve been humming “Defying Gravity” for what feels like an eternity.

Gear up for the much-awaited cinematic adaptation of the beloved musical “Wicked”! This highly anticipated blockbuster of 2024 is creating quite a buzz in pop culture circles as it’s set to grace the silver screen with its impressive ensemble cast. The “Wicked” soundtrack holds a special place in Broadway history, and if you’ve ever watched a musical, you know how catchy one tune can be, whether you want it there or not. For me, “Defying Gravity” has been permanently lodged in my memory since I got to see an early screening of “Wicked”. However, the talented actors Ethan Slater and Marissa Bode have chosen less predictable tunes, and their choices are quite commendable.

Lately, I had a chat with the stars of the musical “Wicked” about the initial segment of the recently confirmed two-part series. When I enquired about the song they remember most, Marissa Bode shared her thoughts on it as follows:

Dancing Through Life for me, for sure. It’s a catchy little number. And just when we were filming it, all the different angles, it was definitely on replay a lot. So it was… it’s an earworm, for sure. And it’s very easy, at least for me, to get stuck in my head. And you know what? I was okay with that, because it’s good.

The infectious tune “Dancing Through Life” certainly sticks in your mind! It’s no surprise that Marissa Bode finds herself humming it after watching Jonathan Bailey’s captivating performance in the movie. Similarly, Ethan Slater found himself drawn into the undeniable charm of the duet performed by the film’s leading actors in “What Is This Feeling?”.

For myself, it seems more like “What’s this sensation I’m experiencing? I find it utterly captivating. It’s an incredible tune, one that has left an indelible mark in my memory.

The tune initially presents the complex rivalry between Glinda and Elphaba, making it even more memorable as it occurs at a crucial point in the narrative, deeply embedding its impact within our minds.

It’s intriguing, whether intentionally or by chance, that both actors selected songs from the first half of this two-part film series for their performances. The second movie is currently in post-production, and these actors are key figures in the upcoming narratives. Given their roles, you’d expect them to be familiar with those tracks since they’re still involved. But considering the premieres and all, it’s possible that they revisited the completed ‘Wicked Part One’ recently.

Initially, dividing the movies into two parts sparked debate among fans, but rest assured, the 2 hours and 40 minutes feel fleeting, and you’ll soon understand that a two-part format is not just feasible, it’s crucial for accurately narrating this story effectively.

But don’t take it from me! All of the early Wicked chatter points to a massive hit, and if there’s any justice at the box office these days, director John M. Chu will get the blockbuster success he deserves. Go see it for yourself on November 22!
