As I read through these heartfelt and enthusiastic messages for the newly announced Vice Presidential candidate, Tim Walz, I find myself feeling a sense of optimism that is truly contagious. With his extensive background as a teacher, veteran, Congressman, and Governor, it’s clear that he embodies the qualities we aspire to instill in our children: intelligence, kindness, empathy, thoughtfulness, and patriotism.
Hollywood is thrilled over Kamala Harris‘ choice for a running mate.
On Tuesday morning, I proudly revealed that Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota is my running mate in my 2024 presidential campaign. “As a governor, coach, educator, and veteran, he’s proven his dedication to serving working families like ours,” I shared on X (formerly Twitter). “It’s an honor to have him join our team. Now, let’s roll up our sleeves and get to work!”
As news spread, responses started flooding in from various parts of the country, even from notable personalities in the entertainment industry and politics.
Senator Bernie Sanders, who once ran as a Democratic presidential candidate from Vermont, praised Walz as a valuable addition to Harris’ successful campaign. He highlighted that Walz is an ex-public school teacher, football coach, and staunch union advocate. As Minnesota’s governor, he served the working class well; Sanders believes that in his role as Vice President, Walz will continue to prioritize and serve the interests of American working families.
“Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also voiced her approval, commenting, ‘Vice President Harris wisely chose Governor Walz as her running mate. Together, they will lead with determination, fairness, and courage for the people of America. They won’t flinch even when faced with tough situations, such as healthcare and school meals. Let’s move forward together.'”
Governor Walz has introduced forward-thinking policies in Minnesota, such as providing free school lunches for all students and striving for the state to completely transition to renewable energy sources by 2040. In 2023, he signed a bill that enshrined the protections established in Roe v. Wade within the state and passed a “Trans Refuge” law that ensures the safety of individuals seeking and offering gender-affirming care within the state. Additionally, he may gain support from Taylor Swift fans as he signed House File 1989, a bill that improves transparency and protection for individuals purchasing tickets online, addressing issues faced by fans trying to buy tickets for her concerts.

Alyssa Milano was one of the initial famous figures to offer congratulations to Walz, posting on X: “You embody qualities that we strive to instill in our children – intelligence, kindness, thoughtfulness, empathy, and patriotism. Your background as a teacher, veteran, congressman, and governor, further enhances these traits, making you an exceptional Vice President candidate!”
Yvette Nicole Brown expressed her joy over Harris’ decision, posting on Twitter, “I’m absolutely thrilled! I had given up hope that this could happen because we have a powerful selection of candidates…
However, former teacher @Tim_Walz was my top pick. He was my absolute favorite. I tried to stay impartial but this wonderful man was the one I favored!”
Mark Cuban also called out those who were unsure about Harris’ pick. “On the @tim_walz
choice, I think people who don’t like it are missing the lesson of the switch to Harris. She went from worst to first as people got to know her,” he tweeted. “It’s not a reach to think the same thing will happen with Walz. People are tired of the ideologues and hate from both parties. They want to vote for normal people they can relate to. Walz can sit at the kitchen table and make you feel like you have know him forever. That’s an incredible skill these days.”
In the realm of comedy, John Cleese voiced his backing for Walz, stating through a letter: “It seems MAGA enthusiasts are already criticizing Tim Walz for advocating felons be given the right to vote. Aren’t they effectively arguing that felons should also be eligible for the Presidency?”
Paul Feig was sad that Chris Farley couldn’t play the Democratic VP candidate role on SNL. He’s happy with Tim Walz, though, and wishes Farley could have acted alongside Maya Rudolph’s character instead.
