As a movie enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of action-comedy genre over the past few decades, I must admit my heart skipped a beat when I heard about the upcoming sequel to “Blue Streak”. This 1999 gem, which has been an underdog favorite for many, is now set to stream for free from December 1st.
In surprising news about upcoming sequels, one of the beloved action performances by a “Bad Boys” cast member will be available for free streaming. Originally released in 1999, the film titled “Blue Streak” offers an exciting blend of comedy and action. The story revolves around Lawrence playing a skilled thief who gets double-crossed, hides the diamond he’s just swiped on a construction site, and ends up in prison. Upon his release, he learns that the construction site has been transformed into a police station…and the diamond is hidden somewhere within its walls.
You may not know this, but Blue Streak was, in fact, inspired by a British comedy from 1965 titled The Big Job. Taking its cues from that ‘60s caper, the action-comedy is directed by Les Mayfield and stars Martin Lawrence alongside Luke Wilson, Dave Chappelle, Peter Greene, Nicole Ari Parker, and William Forsythe. While Blue Streak was met with severely mixed reviews at the time, it saw success at the box office, and has since garnered a following. Blue Streak is all set to stream for free on from December 1, and you can check out the synopsis below.
In a botched heist, thief Miles stashes a diamond at a construction site before getting caught and sentenced for two years. Upon his release, Miles revisits the spot where his loot was hidden, only to find it’s now a police station. To gain access, Miles pretends to be a newly assigned officer and infiltrates the building. As he attempts to retrieve the diamond, he apprehends an escaping criminal. His swift action catches the eye of supervisor Rizzo, who pairs him with the clumsy detective Casey.
‘Blue Streak 2’ Is Now in the Works
Last month, it was revealed that Martin Lawrence will return to play the tricky character Miles Logan in an unexpected sequel to “Blue Streak.” Following the trend of other sequels featuring established franchises and the ongoing success of the action series “Bad Boys,” Lawrence is now aiming to revive the action-comedy classic with “Blue Streak 2” currently in its early stages. The original film garnered mixed reviews, with only 35% approval from critics but a higher rating of 64% from viewers. Let’s hope that Lawrence and the team behind “Blue Streak 2” can harness some of the magic from “Bad Boys.
As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that Cole Masika is currently penning the script for “Blue Streak 2.” According to inside sources, the project is still in its infancy, with no additional talent attached as of now. Interestingly, the charismatic Martin Lawrence will not only reprise his role but also produce the sequel under his production company, Run Tell Dat.
