Marvel Fans Spy Hint of Hero in Thunderbolts Trailer

In about two weeks, the Marvel film “Thunderbolts” will start screening at cinemas, featuring characters such as Bucky Barnes, Yelena Belova, and John Walker forming an unusual band of antiheroes (though they’re nothing like the Suicide Squad). Joining this cast is Geraldine Viswanathan’s character Mel, who works for Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Yet, some spectators think that Mel could be a hidden hero in “Thunderbolts,” and they might just be onto something.

This originates from the recent trailer for the 36th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s series, where Viswanathan is seen adorning a unique golden accessory. Take a look, it’s around the 40-second mark in the video below:

Notice the necklace around my neck? It’s a small metal charm, designed to resemble a bird, or more specifically, a songbird as some Marvel enthusiasts suggest. This detail seems significant because it has led certain fans who are eagerly awaiting Thunderbolts to speculate on platforms like YouTube and others that Geraldine Viswanathan might be portraying Melissa Gold, also known as Songbird in the comics.

It seems they found it quite surprising when Florence Pugh suggested jumping off a building, as Marvel apparently wasn’t particularly thrilled about such an idea.

A Marvel Enthusiast, Who Purportedly Attended a Thunderbolts Test Showing, Offers Encouragement to Those Growing Weary of the Movies That Seem Repetitive:

A die-hard Marvel fan, who claims to have watched a test screening of Thunderbolts, speaks up to those feeling disillusioned by movies that seem too similar.

[*Note: The term “allegedly” is used because the source of the information about the test screening is not explicitly stated.]

Initially portrayed as a villain, Songbird possesses an ability to emit a piercing sound reminiscent of DC’s Black Canary. Notably, she has been part of the Thunderbolts team during the Dark Reign era in Marvel Comics, particularly under the leadership of Norman Osborn. Given that the character wearing a necklace in the MCU is Melissa Gold, this background suggests a strong possibility that she will play the role of Songbird in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As a film enthusiast, I must clarify that while it’s plausible that Geraldine Viswanathan might be part of Thunderbolts, it doesn’t automatically mean she’ll don a costume like Bob who will transform into Sentry. The MCU has a history of utilizing comic book characters without them wearing costumes in this particular franchise. For instance, Captain America: Brave New World, slated for release in 2025, showcased Dennis Dunphy, known as Demolition Man in the comics, but he was simply a non-costumed military commander on the big screen.

Regardless, I’m hoping my assumption about Geraldine Viswanathan’s character is correct, whether or not she has a superhero identity attached. We won’t have long to find out, as Thunderbolts will be here by May 2nd.
