As a lifelong Marvel enthusiast and someone who grew up with the comics, I can confidently say that Jeff The Land Shark is long overdue for his big-screen debut. Having followed the character since his introduction in the West Coast Avengers comics, I’ve seen him evolve from a quirky sidekick to an internet sensation and now, a gaming phenomenon.
Marvel Rivals, the recently launched game available on both PC and consoles, has garnered more than 20 million downloads since its debut on December 6th. I personally find this game captivating, even though it may not have the cinematic flair of a future Marvel movie from the 2025 lineup. However, I strongly believe that one character from this game deserves to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Among the 33 characters featured in Marvel Rivals at present, there’s one particular character who has stirred a collective fascination within the fanbase, whether it’s admiration or criticism. While some adore this character for its cuteness, others express frustration over its perceived power level. Here’s why it deserves a spot in an upcoming Marvel film.
People Love (And Slightly Hate Because His Character Is Too Powerful) Jeff The Land Shark
Initially introduced in a 2018 edition of Marvel’s West Coast Avengers, Jeff The Land Shark is now creating quite a stir in the game, Marvel Rivals. Unlike other heroes, Jeff isn’t exceptionally strong, but he’s renowned for his powers within Marvel Rivals, making him one of the more potent characters.
He has gained some notoriety among the gaming community due to his skill at eliminating opponents by teleporting them out of the game map, which can become tiresome. However, despite this, many admire him, and there is a genuine fondness for the character on X, with humor often used as a way to express affection.
- Jeff, the land shark is everything to me. His little singing omg I love him so much – @SpkyScryTrooper
- Jeff the Land Shark is not a demon or anything of that sort, he’s a sweet baby and just wants some food – @pampurins
- I love sharks too much to be able to say even one bad word about jeff the land shark – @sivaranjani10
- idk how people hate jeff the land shark im having so much fun with the lil guy – @gothiian
- My sons favorite character in @MarvelRivals is Jeff the land shark. He’s always sticking his tongue out and getting all excited – @chuaahh
Generally speaking, there’s a lot of affection for this recently introduced Marvel character online, and it’s easy to understand why. He bears a resemblance to Stitch from the upcoming live-action version of Lilo & Stitch, and given the success Shark Week had last year, it’s no wonder that Jeff is gaining popularity. In my opinion, he’s one of the most adorable Marvel characters I’ve come across, and I believe many others share this view as well.
Why We Need Jeff The Land Shark In The MCU
With James Gunn throwing all his power into making DC great with awesome Superman trailers, I worry about the MCU losing some of the silliness he injected into it. Gunn did a great job of balancing the melodrama of a superhero adventure with some silly comedy. I’m shocked he never featured Jeff The Land Shark in a Guardians of the Galaxy movie, honestly, but he could show up anywhere.
Given the rising fame of the character in “Marvel Rivals”, I strongly suggest Marvel might want to explore introducing Jeff The Land Shark into a film if they haven’t done so yet. Frankly, while Dogpool is currently the top Marvel pet, I believe there’s room for improvement in that department.
Picture Jeff The Land Shark joining forces with The Avengers in their next blockbuster movie, where they confront Robert Downey Jr.’s character, Doctor Doom. It’s quite a vision, albeit a bit whimsical. Let’s turn this imaginative scenario into reality!
Marvel Rivals is available to download on PC, Xbox, and PS5. Meanwhile, if you are looking to watch the Marvel movies in order, anyone with a Disney+ subscription can check out the vast majority of them. There’s never a bad time to go on a superhero binge spree, so why not do it now?
