Marvel Rivals: What Skins will be Free for Players?

Marvel Rivals: What Skins will be Free for Players?

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia when it comes to Marvel Rivals and its freebies for launch day. The Iron Man Armor Model 42 skin is a blast from the past, reminding me of the comics from 2012. It’s great to see that they didn’t just slap together some random design; there’s actually a backstory behind it!

As an avid supporter, I’m excited to share that we all know Marvel Rivals is going to be a game you can play for free! However, the creators at NetEase will be generating income by offering cool cosmetics like skins, emotes, and highlight intros.

On the game’s release day, both paid (real money or in-game currency) and free skins will be available to players.

Free Iron Man Skin

In the Marvel universe, Iron Man serves as a prominent icon. Given this, it’s logical to assume that the character skins available at launch will include one for Tony Stark.

On the day of release, you can find the code by following Marvel Rivals on their social media platforms, particularly Twitter. So, keep an eye out!

In 2012, the sleek Iron Man Armor Model 42, boasting a stylish black and gold design, made its debut in the Iron Man comics. This suit, however, wasn’t initially intended for combat but rather for exploring advanced technology.

In the game, the comical past of Iron Man’s suit is unlikely to influence how he performs, but it’s fascinating to realize that it does have a background and wasn’t merely created at random. Interestingly, this isn’t uncommon in the game, as there seem to be plenty of suits with no apparent backstory either.

Free Skin for PlayStation Plus Members

As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled about the bonus perk of snagging an Iron Man skin, but here’s the cherry on top: PlayStation Plus subscribers are also scoring some exclusive Spider-Man goodies! Kudos to Sony for owning such iconic characters.

On the day of the launch, members of PlayStation Plus can claim free character skins for two characters – Spider-Man and Peni Parker. The unique Scarlet Spider skin (inspired by Kaine Parker) will only be accessible to PS5 gamers, whereas the VEN#m bundle for Peni is open to all players, regardless of whether they are members of PlayStation Plus or not.

Marvel Rivals: What Skins will be Free for Players?

Regardless of its origins being from the Marvel comics, Evangelion enthusiasts can easily recognize a suit that bears similarities to EVA units. The creators of Marvel Rivals specifically emphasized the vibrant hues of purple and green in the game to highlight the resemblance.

Take note: Peni’s EVA skin is going to be available for all players to purchase even outside of the PS Plus subscription, but it’s the Spider-Man Scarlet Spider skin that’s going to be available only to PS players, so that’s a bummer for any Kaine Parker fans that don’t play on PS5.

More Than One Way to Skin a Character

Here’s what we’ve unveiled as the free skins for Marvel Rivals thus far. At present, there are no exclusive skins planned for release on Xbox or PC platforms such as Steam and Epic Games Store.

As a passionate gamer, I can’t help but anticipate the influx of cosmetics in Marvel Rivals, given NetEase’s reputation for such releases. Here’s hoping that this time around, the game will offer skins at a more budget-friendly price point. After all, even Overwatch 2 faced backlash for pricing a skin nearly at USD 20.

Here’s hoping that additional free skins become available in the future, and perhaps you could accumulate some skins by using your in-game points. Cross your fingers, as you won’t have to spend an eternity grinding before affordability comes around.

Marvel Rivals is expected to launch on Dec. 6 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
