As a passionate gamer, I’ve got to share my thoughts on Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite. From what I’ve gathered, opinions on this game vary widely. Some consider it the weakest in the crossover series, while others see it as an okay addition that didn’t quite live up to its potential. However, there seems to be a general consensus among gamers – it’s not as good as Marvel vs Capcom 3, and honestly, I can’t help but agree with that assessment. The game, despite its efforts, just doesn’t seem to measure up to the third installment in the series.
Many spectators believe that the game didn’t thrive due to the absence of X-Men and Fantastic Four characters. Nevertheless, I am inclined to think that this combatant could have prospered without these superheroes; it merely required additional fresh personalities to counterbalance those who were omitted.
For those unaware, Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite was released during a time when Marvel aimed to diminish the importance of their X-Men and Fantastic Four characters in games due to their movie rights being held by Fox. This restriction also affected other games such as Marvel’s Avengers and LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2, preventing them from featuring these specific characters.
The lineup of Infinite didn’t instill much optimism either. To make matters worse, instead of fan-favorites like Wolverine and Storm, it seemed to be filled with characters left over from MvC3. Granted, there were interesting additions like Dante and Hawkeye, but the inclusion of lesser-known fighters such as Arthur felt puzzling.
In Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, although a good number of new characters were introduced, they failed to excite fans significantly. For instance, Captain Marvel proved to be a strong character with command grabs, Gamora impressed with her blend of sword and gun attacks, while Jedah was an intriguing addition from the Darkstalkers series. Furthermore, several characters like Iron Man and Thor were equipped with their signature abilities such as Iron Man’s repulsor blasts and Thor’s Mjolnir throws.
Despite these limitations, we believe Infinite could have excelled with fresh characters featuring diverse move-sets. For instance, Ms. Marvel could’ve showcased exciting attacks similar to Luffy or Dhalsim, using her elasticity. Additionally, Black Bolt from the Inhumans would have been an excellent addition due to his super strength and a voice powerful enough to demolish buildings. To maintain MCU cohesion, Loki could have added an interesting dynamic as well.

From a visual standpoint, this particular game appears quite unrefined. Choosing a semi-realistic aesthetic for the characters unfortunately results in them appearing less than appealing. Some enthusiasts even mock Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3’s art style, but the characters in the Switch exclusive version appear lively and vivid. If Infinite had adopted a design more akin to Marvel vs Capcom 3, it might have been impressive.
From a gameplay perspective, Infinite offers an enjoyable experience. The ability to switch characters during combos results in exciting attack sequences. Additionally, the inclusion of the Infinity Stones increases the diversity, making characters appear more potent than they were previously.
Maximillian Dood, an enthusiast of fighting games, has been working with developers to enhance the Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite game, improving both its visuals and gameplay through the mod known as “Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite – Beyond.” Despite not introducing any new characters, this version features a more vibrant art style and an enhanced soundtrack. It’s undoubtedly the best rendition of this fighting game, although it currently experiences some performance issues on the Steam Deck.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m crossing my fingers that after this experience, everyone concerned has taken note and we’ll finally hear about Marvel vs Capcom 4 in the future.
