This increases the possibility of a popular hero headlining the movie. Over the past few years, Marvel Studios has seen mixed reactions to their releases, encompassing both films and TV shows. As a result, Disney CEO Bob Iger is emphasizing future MCU projects to concentrate on established franchises and prominent characters.
In the coming years, following the completion of the MCU’s 2025 projects that mark the end of the phase initiated by Disney+, it seems logical that new Marvel projects, given the departure of Kang the Conqueror actor Jonathan Majors, will primarily focus on the central narrative of the franchise rather than any side stories or deviations. This shift in focus gives me a promising idea for the main character of the MCU’s 2027 mystery movie.

As a dedicated cinephile, I must say that so far, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Multiverse Saga is yet to unveil an all-encompassing Avengers film, though the Thunderbolts did conclude with a hint that they would hereafter be known as the New Avengers. However, there’s good news on the horizon! Over the next two years, we can look forward to not one, but two Avengers movies gracing our screens. Unfortunately, the excitement has been slightly dampened by Marvel Studios’ decision to push back the releases of both “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars.” Originally slated for May in 2026 and 2027 respectively, these films will now be premiering in December of those same years.
It turns out that while the anticipated delays in the Avengers films were the main headlines, Marvel Studios also made significant adjustments to their Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) release calendar. Originally, movies on November 6, 2026, and November 5, 2027, were slated as “Untitled Marvel” productions; however, those dates are now set for “Untitled Disney” films instead. Although the studio made substantial changes to the MCU’s 2027 lineup, there is still another movie scheduled besides Avengers: Secret Wars. As it stands, an “Untitled Marvel” film is planned for release on July 23, 2027, and I have an ideal character to spearhead this production.

Doctor Strange Is One Of The Marvel Heroes With The Most Multiverse Knowledge
Originally, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” was planned to come out after “Avengers: Doomsday” and before “Avengers: Secret Wars”. However, Tom Holland’s next Spider-Man film will be the first Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) release in 2026. As a result, only one MCU movie slated for July 2027 remains between the Avengers films. This leaves the role of the protagonist in that movie to be someone whose story fits well within the MCU timeline, making “Doctor Strange 3” an ideal choice due to its plot.

It has not been confirmed if Benedict Cumberbatch will join the cast of “Avengers: Doomsday.” His statements about appearing in an MCU film have been conflicting, suggesting a minor role for Doctor Strange in the upcoming Avengers movie. Since “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” ended with him traveling to stop an incursion with Charlize Theron’s Clea, it is possible that “Doctor Strange 3” will continue this plotline, making it a suitable film between the Avengers movies.

Marvel Studios Has Plans For The Hero’s Future In The MCU
It seems that Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed a third Doctor Strange film as of now, but considering the immense success of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” with a global box office collection of approximately $955.8 million (according to Box Office Mojo), it is likely only a matter of time before we hear about “Doctor Strange 3”. Given the popularity of Doctor Strange and the multiverse, a third film in this series seems fitting for a release in 2027.
Besides that, it’s also worth noting that Benedict Cumberbatch hinted at Doctor Strange 3 back in January. In an interview with Variety, he mentioned that Marvel has been discussing Doctor Strange’s future within the franchise and potential directions for his solo film in the next installment. The actor expressed excitement about exploring “untapped potential” with the character. Given Cumberbatch’s recent comments on Doctor Strange 3, its July 2027 release date sandwiched between the next two Avengers movies, and other factors, I suspect that Doctor Strange 3 will be unveiled as Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) mystery movie of 2027.
