Marvel's Native American Hero Kahhori Is Getting Her Second Big Adventure After Exciting What If...? Debut, And I’m So Pumped

As a fan who’s been captivated by the rich tapestry of stories that Marvel has woven over the years, I must say that Kahhori, the Native American heroine introduced in Marvel’s What If…? Season 2, truly stands out. Her unique origins and compelling narrative resonate deeply with me, especially given my own background.

Marvel’s “What If…?” Season 2 was a thrilling watch, with the creative team weaving captivating tales across the fictional multiverse. One standout episode for me was the sixth one, introducing an original character named Kahhori. This young Native American heroine proved crucial to the season’s main storyline and resonated with fans like myself. Since her debut, there’s been anticipation about her next appearance. Well, her next big adventure has been planned, and I can hardly wait for more!

It’s officially announced that Kahhori will be making a comeback through a single issue comic, titled “Kahhori: Shaper of Worlds #1“, which is scheduled for release this year. This Marvel Voices special is under the guidance of seasoned writer Ryan Little, who co-created the character and wrote her What If…? episode. What adds to the excitement is that Indigenous writers Arihhonni “Honni” David and Kelly Lynne D’Angelo have been selected to pen the comic. Additionally, veteran artists Jim Terry and David Cutler will be handling the artwork. Take a look at the cover art below:

The tale will propel a young Mohawk warrior into the 616 universe, pursuing an unknown menace from the sacred Sky World. Eventually, the protagonist ends up in Hell’s Kitchen, where she encounters and battles her foe’s disruptive activities. While specific details about the plot are being kept secret, it appears that well-known supporting characters may make an appearance.

Marvel Comics has consistently striven for diversity and representation, particularly in telling Native American stories more recently. The upcoming Kahhori tale appears to be another step towards achieving this goal. What’s even more exciting is that Indigenous creators are involved in the project. Needless to say, it will be a pleasure to see Kahhori back, and her devoted fans are well aware of why she’s such an exceptional character.

Devery Jacobs Discusses Collaborating with “Tough” Native American Women on ‘Reservation Dogs’ and ‘Echo’

In the episode “What If… Kahhori Reshaped the World?” of the show What If…?, I find myself immersed in a world where fate had the Tesseract land among the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, long before European colonization. This magical artifact eventually came to rest at The Forbidden Lake, a place that led to a portal to the celestial realm, Sky World. It’s here where people have extraordinary powers and eternal life. By sheer fortune, Kahhori (voiced by Devery Jacobs) is transported to this dimension and bestowed with these abilities. She then uses her newfound skills to safeguard her homeland and loved ones against the relentless Spanish conquistadors.

I’m thrilled about the possibility of Kahhori getting her own solo comic series, but I can’t help but wonder if she’ll reappear in Season 3 of “What If…?”. My expectations for the final season, under a new head writer, are high, particularly regarding a specific scene featuring The Watcher. Frankly, I can’t help but hope that Kahhori will play a role in the last episodes. Considering her tremendous power, as demonstrated when she fought Strange Supreme alongside Captain Carter, there’s still a lot of potential for her character.

Should another adventure not materialize for our cherished protagonist, I find solace in knowing we still have at least one more tale ahead. It’s a given that the comic book universe always yearns for new personalities, and I’m thrilled to see Marvel tapping into one of their freshly minted characters from their lore.
