Marvel’s ‘Thunderbolts’ Spin-off Featuring Sentry Is Officially Happening!

After the conclusion of “Avengers: Endgame”, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) said goodbye to some significant characters such as Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, and Chris Evans’ Captain America. This departure opens up opportunities for new characters to lead the ongoing franchise. This year, a fresh character will make an appearance in the upcoming “Thunderbolts“, and it appears that Marvel is already developing a spin-off for this newcomer. The enigmatic character is Bob, who will be portrayed by the actor from “Top Gun: Maverick” (no name provided), and according to creator Paul Jenkins, he is bound by contract to star in his very own movie.

For those who might not know, Bob is also known as the superhero Sentry, which was introduced by Jenkins along with artist Jae Lee in “The Sentry” #1 back in 2000. Frequently compared to Marvel’s Superman, Sentry carries a heavy load of complications. Despite functioning as a hero for numerous years, neither he nor his surroundings can recall him…and this is due to the fact that two vastly different personas reside within his mind. One is the kind-hearted superhero, Sentry, while the other is the malevolent supervillain, Void.

It’s quite intriguing to think about Bob, also known as Sentry or Void, potentially starring in his own standalone story. Interestingly enough, it seems that writer Jenkins has secured an agreement with Marvel Studios to pen exactly that.

I’m thrilled to see my work appreciated, and let me share something exciting – I’ve got an agreement with Marvel, which means if they ever decide to make a Sentry film, I’ll be the one writing the script. That’s great news! Additionally, I’ve also contributed to the development of the Thunderbolts movie.

Bob Will Be Both a Hero and a Villain in ‘Thunderbolts*’

In the upcoming movie “Thunderbolts”, set to premiere on May 2nd, I’ll be introduced as a character whose intriguing alter egos have been hinted at in trailers. One chilling sequence that stands out is The Void using his molecule manipulation ability to obliterate people, giving us a haunting glimpse of his powers. Director Peyton Reed shared that he was deeply involved in the creation of “Thunderbolts” and offered guidance on how to bring this character to life most effectively.

In the past, I provided advice on the Thunderbolts team, offering them suggestions about their characters. It’s intriguing to see how it will unfold. While there are parts that I think could be improved, some aspects of it seem promising. As you might have noticed from the preview, both Sentry and Void seem to be featured in Thunderbolts.

Under the guidance of director Jake Schreier and screenwriters Eric Pearson, Lee Sung Jin, and Joanna Calo, the film titled “Thunderbolts*” brings back some well-known characters alongside Lewis Pullman’s Bob, including Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes (a.k.a. Winter Soldier), Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, and Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster. For more details about this Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) venture, you can read the official synopsis provided below.

In Thunderbolts, Marvel Studios gathers an unusual band of anti-heroes – Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes (also known as the Winter Soldier), Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster, and John Walker. After being trapped in a deadly situation created by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, these disenchanted individuals are compelled to undertake a perilous journey that will make them face the deepest secrets of their pasts. Will this troubled team fall apart or discover redemption and transform into something greater – before it’s too late?
