‘Masters of the Universe’: Camila Mendes Nabs Key Role of Teela in Amazon’s He-Man Movie

As a long-time fan of the iconic Masters of the Universe franchise, I am beyond thrilled to see it coming to life in a live-action adaptation! And to top it off, the talented Camila Mendes has been cast as Teela, a role that is near and dear to my heart.

Actress Camila Mendes, renowned for her role as Veronica in the TV series Riverdale on The CW, has secured the lead part of Teela in the live-action adaptation of Masters of the Universe, produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films.

Mendes will be acting alongside Nicholas Galitzine, known for his role in “The Idea of You”, portraying He-Man in the upcoming adaptation of the iconic 1980s toy brand. Travis Knight, creator of renowned stop-motion studio Laika and director of “Kubo and the Two Strings”, is leading this film project.

The specifics of the storyline are being held back, but it revolves around Prince Adam of Eternia, who transforms into the powerful He-Man by wielding his Power Sword. Endowed with extraordinary strength and abilities, he protects the planet alongside a group of companions, battling against the evil Skeletor and his troops.

In the animated series, Teela serves as the leader of the royal guard, a position she holds due to her adoption by Man-at-Arms, the royal family’s weapon designer. Occasionally, she harbors doubts about Prince Adam and suspects him of being the powerful He-Man. On some occasions, she has also been romantically involved with him.

The screenplay was initially penned by David Callaham, followed by revisions from Chris Butler, with earlier drafts also contributed by the Nee brothers (Aaron and Adam).

On June 5, 2026, a movie produced by Escape Artists and Mattel Films will be shown in cinemas around the globe.

Mendes has landed a significant part in an esteemed, expensive film project, marking a notable achievement for him. He auditioned for the role just two weeks ago, alongside up-and-coming actresses Clara Rugaard, Alexandra Shipp, and Quintessa Swindell.

I’ve gained recognition for my portrayal of Veronica on the series Riverdale, which wrapped up last year. Lately, you can catch me in the 2024 films Upgraded and Música. Notably, I’ve worked with Robinson before on the 2022 Netflix teen black comedy Do Revenge. This autumn, I’ll be taking on a leading role for Sony’s remake of the horror classic I Know What You Did Last Summer.

She is repped by CAA, Luber Roklin Entertainment, and Hansen Jacobsen.
