Matt Champion Unveils Dijon-Produced New Single “Faye”

As a long-time admirer of Matt Champion‘s unique blend of sounds and storytelling, I have been eagerly anticipating his latest release since the enigma that is Mika’s Laundry graced our ears. The man has a knack for keeping us on our toes, and “Faye” is no exception. This just-over-two-minute trip into Champion’s trap-tinged world takes a more hip-hop-infused tone, and I must say, it’s got me tapping my foot and scratching my head in equal measure.

Matt Champion hinted at having a surprise up his sleeve this week, and people were unsure about the details. Today, the elusive artist unveiled the nature of his initial release since his first solo album titled “Mika’s Laundry.“.

Titled “Faye,” the track lasts approximately two minutes and leans into Champion’s trap-influenced past, adopting a hip-hop-leaning vibe compared to what we heard in his experimental phase with Mika’s Laundry. The production for “Faye” is handled by his frequent partners Dijon and Henry Kwapis.

“All black dress, yeah, that’s Saint Laurent / *itch gon’ get the Ouija and ask you somethin’,” he spits over distorted production at the end of the verse.

Apart from his music, Champion additionally posted some images from “Faye” on his Instagram, which contained extensive text. Some viewers speculated it might be a hint towards an upcoming book, but in reality, these visuals seem to signal the beginning of Champion’s new collection of singles. This series is expected to delve deeper into the themes he previously explored in Mika’s Laundry.
