Matt Damon & Tom Holland Unleashed in BTS ‘The Odyssey’ Pics! Nolan’s Fantasy Epic Unveiled

Renowned Oscar-winning filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s forthcoming historical action-adventure, Tenet,
boasts an astounding ensemble cast, and we have recently unveiled glimpses of two main actors: Matt Damon
and Robert Pattinson. Captured on set, Damon is seen sporting a large, bushy beard and appears battle-ready as he films a sequence in Favignana, southern Italy.

In a recent sighting, Damon, set to portray Odysseus in The Odyssey, was spotted filming with Zendaya, known for her roles in Euphoria and Spider-Man: No Way Home (as reported by People). It’s whispered that she might embody the goddess Athena in Nolan’s upcoming adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic poem.

In a new departure for Nolan, “The Odyssey” represents his initial exploration into the realm of full-blown fantasy. This film adaptation recounts the tale of Odysseus’ decade-long voyage back home after the Trojan War, during which the noble king encounters challenges such as a one-eyed giant (cyclops), tempting sirens, a sorceress deity, among others, all while striving to be reunited with his wife and child.

Tom Holland Cuts a Heroic Figure in New Look at ‘The Odyssey’

Moving on to the topic, it’s been announced that Tom Holland, known for his roles in the MCU, will portray Telemachus (Odysseus’ son) in the movie adaptation of The Odyssey. Interestingly, photographs have surfaced showing him in full battle armor while filming a scene with Ryan Hurst, who starred in Sons of Anarchy. In these images, Holland appears as a valiant figure, donning an armored chest plate and arm guards, amidst the soldiers during shooting in Favignana, Italy.

The images suggest that Christopher Nolan, known for his grandiose set pieces and practical effects, is likely to employ similar techniques in his take on The Odyssey. This fantasy tale represents a shift in genre for the filmmaker, who is most famed for action flicks like The Dark Knight, Inception, and Tenet, as well as sci-fi tales such as Interstellar and The Prestige, WWII movie Dunkirk, and the biographical thriller Oppenheimer, which earned him his first Oscar.

In addition to Matt Damon, Tom Holland, and Zendaya, the upcoming film The Odyssey features a star-studded cast that reportedly includes Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Odysseus’ wife; Charlize Theron as Circe, the sorceress; Benny Safdie as Agamemnon; and Lupita Nyong’o as Clytemnestra. However, these casting details are not yet officially confirmed. The impressive ensemble of A-list actors also includes Robert Pattinson, Elliot Page, Mia Goth, Corey Hawkins, Jon Bernthal, Cosmo Jarvis, Himesh Patel, Samantha Morton, John Leguizamo, Will Yun Lee, and even more.

As a cinephile, I must admit that the grandeur of Christopher Nolan’s latest project, The Odyssey, with its colossal scale and stellar Hollywood cast, is truly awe-inspiring. Yet, John Leguizamo has shared intriguing insights, suggesting that Nolan manages this epic endeavor “as if it were an independent film.

As for me, I must say, his approach is quite intriguing… He’s working with a substantial budget, yet manages it in a way that resembles an independent filmmaker. This isn’t about following studio guidelines or committee decisions; instead, he’s carving his own path. You could almost liken him to an indie filmmaker, but one who happens to have an abundance of resources at his disposal.

The Odyssey is due to land in theaters on July 17, 2026.
