Matt Damon Weighs In On Whether Ocean’s 14 Will Happen

As a gamer with a soft spot for heist movies, especially the Ocean’s franchise, I can’t help but feel like I’m stuck in a never-ending loop of waiting for the next big score. The original trilogy was a rollercoaster ride of excitement, wit, and camaraderie that I revisit time and again.

Is it possible that the Ocean’s saga has reached its conclusion? I’m hesitant to say for certain. After the Ocean’s trilogy became a blockbuster hit in the 2000s, the cast opted to move away from producing more heist films within the same universe. The franchise was revived in 2018 with Ocean’s 8, but this spin-off featured a fresh team of female characters rather than bringing back the original cast members. Recently, there have been discussions about whether we might see the original Ocean’s crew, including stars like Brad Pitt and George Clooney, reunite for another film.

As a gamer, I’ve been buzzing about my new movie project, “The Instigators,” which shares the screen with the talented Casey Affleck. You can catch it on Apple TV+ if you subscribe! Given that we both starred in the Ocean’s series together, it was inevitable that the topic came up during our interviews. When asked by ScreenRant about a potential Ocean’s 14, I didn’t shut the door on the idea completely. In fact, I hinted at being open to the possibility if it ever materializes in the future.

Absolutely! [Chuckles] The possibility lies in assembling our entire team and crafting a solid script. Let’s see where things lead, but there’s not much news so far. However, we’re certainly open to the idea, considering our affection for the whole group, and it would undeniably be an enjoyable experience.

It’s thrilling to learn that Damon (and presumably Affleck) are involved, given his prominence in the beloved heist movie series. Although they might not require much persuasion, there could be an issue with Brad Pitt, who previously expressed reluctance about Ocean’s 14 and suggested his financial circumstances would have to deteriorate significantly for him to participate. However, since their reunion in Wolves and their public expressions of wanting to collaborate on another project, it’s possible that he might have reconsidered.

It’s been mentioned that Don Cheadle has been asked about Ocean’s 14, and he shared that discussions have taken place about this idea for quite some time. However, nothing is set in stone yet due to the challenges of coordinating schedules among such high-profile stars. Still, the cast of the Ocean’s series often reflects fondly on their experiences working together and the strong bonds they formed during production. If Steven Soderbergh manages to write another outstanding script, it might just be enough to spark everyone’s interest and bring them back for another adventure.

Though fans might continue to enjoy the “Ocean’s” films, it seems that Hollywood is looking forward to fresh faces for the franchise. A prequel titled “Ocean’s 11,” starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, has been in development at Lucky Chap for some time now. Studios may prefer a contemporary take on the series with new characters. However, there’s still a chance that the original cast could return, perhaps in a minor role. It might not be “Ocean’s 14,” but it could offer fans another fun opportunity to see Damon and his team back together again.
