Max to Grow by 6M Subscribers This Quarter, David Zaslav Says

As a seasoned gamer with years of experience navigating the ever-evolving landscape of media and entertainment, I can’t help but feel a sense of intrigue at this latest development between Warner Bros. Discovery and Charter Communications. The prospect of HBO content becoming a staple in a standard cable bundle instead of an additional cost is indeed enticing.

As a gamer, I’m always on the lookout for a comeback after a tough loss, and Warner Bros. Discovery seems to be in a similar situation, having lost their NBA rights package. To strengthen their linear pay TV business, they’re striking a multiyear deal with Charter Communications. This partnership aims to rebuild what was once known as the cable bundle, which is like regrouping my gaming team for a fresh start.

This agreement means that Max, offering HBO content and Discovery+, will be accessible at no additional cost to Charter Spectrum TV Select subscribers. It’s the first instance where HBO programming is included in a standard cable package rather than being offered as an extra add-on.

The announcement of the agreement occurred just prior to David Zaslav‘s speech at the Goldman Sachs conference on Thursday. During his address, the CEO of Warner Bros. revealed that their main streaming platform, Max, was expected to gain approximately 6 million new subscribers in its recent quarter. Back in August, the company had already reported that their streaming subscribers had reached 103.3 million by the end of the second quarter, marking an increase of 3.6 million subs.

More to come.
