As someone who has grown up with the dark and brooding Batman of Christopher Nolan’s trilogy, yet still holds a soft spot for the campy charm of Adam West’s portrayal, I must say that McFarlane Toys‘ latest offering is nothing short of a dream come true. The ability to pre-order these iconic cowls based on different iterations of Batman is a testament to the enduring appeal of this character and his many interpretations over the years.
If Adam West, Michael Keaton, or Kevin Conroy are among your top choices who’ve played Batman, you’re in luck! McFarlane Toys is offering cowls inspired by the ’60s Batman TV series, Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman, and the Knightfall comic from the ’90s. These items are now available for pre-order at around $14.99 each from common toy retailers, with release scheduled for November.
Each cowl features a pedestal for display and stands approximately 7 inches tall; the Knightfall version is slightly taller at around 7.3 inches. Rest assured, they won’t consume much space in your collection. If smaller replicas don’t appeal to you, there’s another alternative, albeit it may be a bit tricky to find at present.
If you’re looking for a budget-friendly way to express your fandom, consider the smaller versions of the cowls. However, if you want the authentic experience, check out the full-sized Batman ’89 cowl that’s available for $159.99. Although this option is pricier than buying all three smaller ones, it stands tall at 24.5 inches, making it the genuine article. Despite being sold out at many retailers, there might be some canceled orders you could grab before the November shipping date.
What’s the Latest With the DCU Batman?
2023 saw Michael Keaton portray a character in the movie “The Flash,” directed by Andy Muschetti, but despite this, the film failed to resonate with audiences. It seems unlikely that Keaton will reprise his role, as Batman is being recast for James Gunn’s DC universe once more. In the meantime, Muschetti is moving forward with superhero projects and will direct the DCU’s “The Brave and the Bold” featuring Batman. As of now, there’s no word on who will take up the role next, leaving fans in suspense for their next Dark Knight. Robert Pattinson, however, remains set to reappear in the sequel to Matt Reeves’ “The Batman,” although this universe is not connected to Gunn’s.
The iconic character Batman has experienced numerous transformations and been brought to life by various actors. People have their personal preferences, and discussions abound about which actor wears the cape and mask most effectively, from West to Pattinson, and whoever takes on the role next. It’s hard to fathom a world without Batman dominating the movie and TV landscape – despite Batman & Robin‘s attempt to bury him cinematically. Now, the Dark Knight has regained his prominence, and with two live-action Batmen ready to take center stage in the near future, as well as numerous animated projects in development, fans will be inundated with fresh Batman content.
