In a recent statement, Anthony Mackie (who plays Star/Captain America) expressed that “[everyone] can be replaced” in the project. This comment follows news about the potential return of Hailee Steinfeld’s character, Kate Bishop, in Avengers: Doomsday.
Mackie expressed his enthusiasm during an interview about a topic he found captivating, stating, “Let me tell you something? I was genuinely thrilled, buddy. This tale is one that stretches the limits, and it — the suspenseful finale, particularly the final scenes of the movie — it lays the groundwork for further development in the Marvel narrative, which is truly intriguing.” He added, “As you watch these characters unfold and observe how they fit into the universe’s grand scheme, nothing is secure. Any character can be written out.
Earlier, Paul Rudd, who plays Scott Lang/Ant-Man, made a humorous comment about his role. He said, “I saw that announcement. I did. I thought, ‘That’s clever, yes I’m Ant-Man.’ But there’s still the part of me that feels a bit undermined by the tiny chair. However, at least now, one that fits me when I sit down.” On the other hand, Shang-Chi actor disclosed all the information he had about the cast for Avengers: Doomsday before the official livestream reveal.
Focusing on the film “Avengers: Doomsday” specifically, it discussed the choice of casting Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. Essentially, they were saying, “It’s Robert – you know what I mean? There’s not much to say. His past performances have already proven his talent. He’s an incredibly skilled actor. I always enjoy watching him at work.
Building on that topic, directors of the Avengers series shared their reasoning for believing only Robert Downey Jr. could embody Doctor Doom. They additionally discussed, with Joe commenting, “The process of creating this character is quite intense. He’s deeply engrossed in it. He’s incredibly focused.” Earlier, Avengers: Doomsday writer Stephen McFeely unveiled the reason behind Robert Downey Jr.’s unexpected comeback in February.
Robert Downey Jr. Is the New Doctor Doom
Joseph Culp, who portrayed Doctor Doom in Roger Corman’s Fantastic Four film, expressed his excitement about Robert Downey Jr. being cast as Doctor Doom. He stated, “It’s an incredible moment to witness this announcement! I can’t wait for the day when an actor will step into the role of Doom after a long time. There have been other versions, but it’s Robert Downey Jr. This is truly exciting! As a fellow actor, I offer my congratulations to Mr. Downey. The role of Doctor Doom is magnificent.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released on May 1, 2026.
