MCU Star is the Next Robert Downey Jr.?

First Steps”, featuring four new Marvel heroes, is set to debut in a few weeks and introduce four fresh faces to the MCU. The main characters are played by Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Shakman has hinted that one of these actors possesses the same charisma as Downey Jr., who initially brought Iron Man to life in the MCU.

On the Marvel Official Podcast, Shakman discussed his experiences in casting the main Fantastic Four actors. For the part of Johnny Storm (or Human Torch), he commended Joseph Quinn, referring to him as an “exceptional actor” and mentioning that he possesses a vibrant energy reminiscent of a young Robert Downey Jr.

In my opinion, Joe Quinn is an extraordinary performer. There’s an energy about him that’s captivating. He really breathes life into his roles and consistently delivers something special. Reminds me a bit of a younger Robert Downey Jr., in terms of charisma. Moreover, I have no doubt that he can take on any challenge.

Johnny Storm, the younger sibling in the Storm family often recognized for his impulsive nature and charm with women, bears some resemblances to Downey Jr.’s character, the playboy billionaire philanthropist Tony Stark. Yet, Shakman emphasized that Johnny is not just a one-dimensional character, but they aimed to portray him as complex and multi-faceted, or in other words, “more than what meets the eye.

In simpler terms, the director explained that Johnny is not just charismatic like a rock star, but also has a deep, soulful side. As for The Fantastic Four’s Johnny Storm, he loves using his powers the most, but he’s always chasing after something more, seeking what else is out there. Director Shakman mentioned that Quinn’s blend of cocky confidence and emotional vulnerability was crucial in creating a multi-dimensional character for the movie.

To me, he embodies a deep-rooted personality. The notion that he’s merely a ladies’ man or someone who thrives on social gatherings overlooks his true essence. Johnny Storm is far more than that. He is Sue’s brother, but his spirit yearns for the high life. Additionally, he’s an enthusiast of thrill-seeking activities. Indeed, he relishes flying. It’s safe to say that he’s the one who most appreciates his powers among all.

In the film, he’s not just any ordinary rock star; he’s a four-year veteran who’s been rocking the stage, yet now he’s pondering about other possibilities and fantasizing about unexplored opportunities.

In our mindset, we aspire for him to encompass all those qualities, yet I yearn for him to embody diversity. I recognized within Joe the blend of confidence, humor, and wit, but there was also a delicate softness and emotional openness that made his persona rich and complex.

Enthusiasts of “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” have previously witnessed Human Torch’s fiery abilities in the movie, but Shakman’s remarks hint at the human struggles that Johnny will face in the film. With his notable role in “Stranger Things,” Quinn appears to be an ideal choice for this character, potentially marking another instance of spot-on casting akin to Downey Jr. and Tony Stark.

Without a doubt, since RJD has returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Doctor Doom, it won’t be long until this esteemed actor and former star of the Fantastic Four shares the screen with him. Both characters are expected to appear in Marvel’s upcoming crossover film, “Avengers: Doomsday”.

Stepping into the shoes of a character from the Marvel universe, I can’t help but express my excitement for my role in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.” As Quinn, I join forces with my exceptional co-stars, bringing to life Marvel’s original family, facing our most daunting challenge yet – the looming presence of Galactus, portrayed by Ralph Ineson. This cinematic adventure unfolds on July 25 and marks the beginning of Marvel Studios’ sixth phase in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Which MCU Star Will Fill Robert Downey Jr.’s Shoes?

I’ve had an incredible journey being the cornerstone of Marvel Studios’ film empire, with my debut marking the beginning of their cinematic universe. From there, I starred in numerous other films and established a strong presence within this world. Even after Iron Man’s demise, my role has been reimagined for the Multiverse Saga, now as its main antagonist.

Many believe that Downey Jr.’s casting in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a role that will always be hard to top, making it quite challenging for any potential successors to step into his shoes.

In essence, the resemblance between Johnny Storm and Tony Stark, coupled with Shakman’s comparison of Quinn’s acting to Downey Jr., suggests that the actor could be ideally suited for the role in the MCU. However, it was Tom Holland, who seemed to embody the “soul of the Marvel universe,” as described by Joe Russo, director of Avengers: Endgame, in a role that he previously filled. This implies that Holland has become synonymous with the role and charisma once embodied by Downey Jr. in the MCU.

It’s undeniable that both actors, Holland and Quinn, are poised for successful careers within the MCU. Holland is gearing up to headline his fourth Spider-Man movie, while Quinn is set to become a familiar face following the premiere of The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Avengers: Doomsday. However, with Downey Jr. signed on to wrap up the Multiverse Saga in Avengers 5 & 6, there’s no rush to find his replacement anytime soon.
