MCU’s Blade Replaced by Predator: Badlands in Disney Schedule Shake-up

MCU's Blade Replaced by Predator: Badlands in Disney Schedule Shake-up

As a seasoned cinephile who has witnessed the rise and fall of countless cinematic franchises, I must confess that the latest news about Blade’s delay is both perplexing and amusing. After five long years, it feels like we’re playing a game of cinematic hot potato with Marvel Studios.

As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I’ve been following the tumultuous journey of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s latest installment with bated breath. Unfortunately, the movie that was originally set to grace our screens in November 2025 has been taken off Disney’s list of upcoming releases yet again. Now, Dan Trachtenberg’s next Predator film will take its place, leaving the debut of Blade hanging in uncertainty once more.

Despite the disappointment felt by fans who have been eagerly anticipating the new Blade movie for five years now, it appears that the production delays might be justified, potentially making the film worth the extended wait. Previously, Kevin Feige emphasized the importance of getting Blade just right and creating the best possible movie. Given the criticism surrounding the content released in 2021 and 2022, it seems that the future of the franchise is focusing on quality rather than quantity, which may necessitate a longer wait for some of the previously announced films to hit theatres.

The unfortunate fact that Blade won’t be released on November 7, 2025, is great news for fans of the 2022 hit Prey, as that date has now been set as the release day for Predator: Badlands, a standalone Predator movie featuring Elle Fanning.

Blade Gets Another Indefinite Delay

The creation of “Blade” initially appeared to be a simple task when the film was first announced in 2019. However, the challenge of developing a movie centered around a character previously portrayed by Wesley Snipes in four films – with his surprise cameo in Deadpool and Wolverine – has proved quite vexing for Marvel Studios.

As a film enthusiast, I’ve had the unfortunate experience of watching the turbulent journey of “Blade” unfold. The film initially faced setbacks due to the widespread disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, which cast a shadow over many productions, making it difficult for them to maintain momentum and direction.

It appears that Marvel Studios is finding it challenging to produce Blade within a year, which isn’t unexpected. This delay means we’re still unsure when Mahershala Ali will fulfill his post-credits role from Eternals and appear as Blade on screen. Furthermore, the switch of Blade with Predator: Badlands might lead to a decrease in MCU releases for 2025, reducing them from four to three. Upcoming movies include Captain America: Brave New World in February, Thunderbolts in May, and Fantastic Four: First Steps in July.
