MCU's 'Wonder Man' Series Will Run for 8 Episodes on Disney+

As a long-time Marvel fan and someone who’s had their fair share of ups and downs with the ever-evolving universe, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and intrigue about the upcoming Disney+ series, “Wonder Man.” The eight-episode arc promises to be a captivating exploration of the world of Hollywood, and it’s hard not to get drawn in by the meta narrative that seems to be unfolding.

Following numerous hints from Marvel Studios, it’s officially confirmed that Wonder Man will be streaming on Disney+. Recently, Brad Winderbaum (Marvel’s Head of Streaming, Animation, and Television) has disclosed the number of episodes this series will consist of. Fans got a sneak peek at the new series in a Marvel Television featurette released in October. Not only did it introduce Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, but it also signaled the return of the MCU’s one true king, Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley). The footage also unveiled the release date — Wonder Man is set to premiere on the streaming platform in December 2025.

After much anticipation, Winderbaum has revealed on the Phase Hero podcast with Brandon Davis that the “Wonder Man” series on Disney+ will consist of eight episodes. Earlier speculations suggested a 10-episode run, but Marvel Studios have now confirmed the episode count for this show.

In 1964, Simon Williams first appeared in Marvel Comics’ The Avengers issue #9. Showcasing his extraordinary abilities, Simon Williams intermittently joined and left the Avengers team before relocating to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. Leveraging his unbreakable form, he found success as a stuntman, and his Hollywood journey continued from there. The storyline for the Wonder Man series is not extensively detailed yet, but it’s been revealed that Williams will be trying out for a superhero film titled “Wonder Man,” which could lead him to adopt the role of the main character.

‘Wonder Man’ Is Marvel’s Most Meta Series

In simple terms, during the podcast, Winderbaum referred to the show as a heartfelt tribute to Hollywood. The show, which is about a superhero actor auditioning for a superhero film, can be seen as incredibly self-referential, marking one of Marvel Studios’ most metaphorical stories to date. Fans were thrilled to catch the first sneak peek of Wonder Man in the new trailer, but they were also taken aback when it included the MCU’s most contentious villain yet. Interestingly enough, Trevor Slattery, who was portrayed by Kingsley in Iron Man 3, was always meant to be part of a series about actors. Previously, he had been hired to impersonate the Mandarin instead of Aldrich Killian, who was the actual antagonist in that movie.

Brad Winderbaum didn’t disclose many details about the show’s storyline. In fact, he admitted to delighting in keeping fans guessing and appreciates our attempts to predict the show’s content. As he put it, “It’s quite entertaining to watch people speculate about what they think the plot is. That’s part of the excitement.” However, Winderbaum did hint that Simon Williams (played by Don Cheadle) and Trevor Slattery will share significant screen time in the series, stating, “The show largely focuses on these two characters; an unusual pairing between Simon Williams and Trevor Slattery.” Yet, Winderbaum couldn’t reveal too much due to restrictions.

“[Kevin Feige]’s literally on the other side of this wall right now.”
