Meet actor who became bankrupt and suffered from depression but things changed after working with Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra and more big stars

As a dedicated follower and admirer of the resilience and talent that the film industry harbors, I find Ranvir Shorey’s journey to be nothing short of inspiring. Born into a family with deep roots in Bollywood yet facing challenges that many outsiders might not encounter, Ranvir’s story is a testament to his strength and determination.

It’s often assumed that children of stars find it easier to break into Bollywood, but the careers of certain artists paint a different picture. For instance, actor Ranvir Shorey encountered numerous obstacles during his climb up the ladder in the movie world.

Although he’s tasted some victories, he’s found it tough to reach superstardom and has encountered both personal and professional hurdles that pushed him close to financial ruin at one stage. Upon joining the movie business, he developed a relationship with a famed actress and director, which unfortunately had detrimental consequences for his career progression.

This situation resulted in a struggle against depression, causing him to go abroad for a while. Later, he married his beloved, but the union ended in divorce, leaving him heartbroken and battling depression again.

To rejuvenate his career, Shorey has recently joined Bigg Boss OTT 3, an experience that seems to have been a significant milestone for him.

Born on the 18th of August, 1972, Ranvir Shorey is a well-known Indian actor and ex-television host. Known for his roles in Hindi films and TV shows, he first appeared on the big screen in 2002 with Ek Chhotisi Love Story.

Looking back at the hurdles he encountered earlier, Shorey reminisced about the difficulties he faced in his academic journey. Originally drawn towards science, he later tried his hand at commerce. However, after multiple setbacks, he eventually found himself in the arts faculty, facing failures there as well.

Eventually, he chose a degree in film analysis, and it was through this path that he found himself working off-camera. During this phase of his life, an opening for a Video Jockey position on a music station emerged, kickstarting his journey into acting.

Contrary to popular belief, having ties to the movie business through his father, K.D. Shorey who was a film producer, Ranvir discovered that his lineage actually posed more obstacles than opportunities in his career path.

During an interview with Dainik Bhaskar, he shared that his relationship with his father was tense. He mentioned that instead of his father’s name being advantageous, it actually made it harder for him to secure work opportunities.

These hardships only intensified his path toward acknowledgment. He recounted the tough periods they experienced as a family, mentioning that their financial situation became dire due to his father’s last movies failing, causing them to lose their home and struggle to pay bills.

Initially, Shorey started off in broadcasting as a TV host on Channel V, also experimenting with stage performances. Later, he switched to movies, but the early part of his acting career in films was marked by challenges.

During the years from 2002 to 2005, he remembered enduring periods of unemployment and financial hardship, living in tight financial circumstances.

2006 marked a significant milestone for Shorey as his films Khosla Ka Ghosla and Pyaar Ke Side Effects propelled him forward, giving him the push he required to keep going.

After that, Shorey appeared in several movies such as Traffic Signal, Fashion with Priyanka Chopra, Singh Is Kinng with Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, Aaja Nachle featuring Madhuri Dixit, Ek Tha Tiger starring Salman Khan, Bombay Talkies, Sonchiriya, Angrezi Medium, and more recently, Tiger 3.

Ranvir Shorey tied the knot with actress Konkona Sen Sharma in 2010, following a two-year courtship. Their low-key wedding took place at home in Goregaon. Their son, Haroon, was born in March 2011. Despite parting ways after five years of marriage, they’ve managed to preserve their friendship and jointly care for their child.

In terms of his career, Shorey has lately been observed collaborating with Anupam Kher in the movie ‘The Signature’. He’s managing to make a mark for himself within the industry, overcoming the obstacles that have come his way.
