As an ardent fan of Indian cinema, I must say that Vivaan Shah is a shining star who has walked his own path amidst the vast shadow cast by his illustrious parents. His journey from The Doon School to Bollywood is as inspiring as it is intriguing.

As a scion of two esteemed and multitalented Bollywood legends, I could have followed in their illustrious footsteps. However, life took an unexpected turn for me. Despite my foray into acting and achieving recognition while working alongside the legendary Shah Rukh Khan, I’ve decided to retreat from the spotlight now.

Today, I’d like to shine a spotlight on Vivaan Shah, the talented scion of Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak Shah. My journey in showbiz began with a captivating role alongside Priyanka Chopra in Vishal Bhardwaj’s 7 Khoon Maaf in 2011. I also had the privilege to work on Farah Khan’s directorial project, Happy New Year, where my performance garnered recognition and drew attention from viewers nationwide.

Vivaan is related to Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah, who served as the former vice-chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University and was also his uncle. He has a brother named Imaad Shah, in addition to a half-sister from his father’s side, Heeba Shah.

In 2009, Shah finished his schooling at The Doon School. Following his education, he attempted to get into the history honors program at St. Stephen’s College in Delhi University, but only fell short by a single mark. Instead of settling for a regular BA Honors degree, he went back to Mumbai and signed up at Jai Hind College after his first year.

Shah has made appearances in numerous films, such as Bombay Velvet from 2015, where he portrayed the character Tony. He also appeared in Laali Ki Shaadi Mein Laaddoo Deewana from 2017, taking on the role of Laaddoo. Subsequently, he acted in Kabaad The Coin (2020) as Bandhan and Ae Kaash Ke Hum (2020) as Aayush. More recently, he was seen in Coat, a film released in 2023.

In an interview with DNA, Vivaan revealed that his father is a huge admirer of Farah in the movie world. He feels incredibly fortunate to have had the chance to contribute to Happy New Year, expressing gratitude for this experience that he will hold dear forever. He believes his father would be extremely pleased and content with his performance in the film.

In his own words, Vivaan shared that although his father taught him the academic side of acting, it was through this movie project where he picked up hands-on skills. He underscored the significance of putting theory into practice and acknowledged that every person contributing to the film provided him with invaluable lessons throughout the journey.

Apart from sharing his excitement, Vivaan acknowledged that it was a privilege to collaborate with esteemed actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani, and Jackie Shroff. He referred to Boman as a mentor, Farah as a maternal figure, Shah Rukh as a beacon of guidance, Deepika as a valued friend, Abhishek as an older sibling, Sonu as a coach, and Jackie as a pillar of acting wisdom. This, he emphasized, was a treasure trove of knowledge about acting that he would carry with him forever.

During a chat with Hindustan Times, Shah shared that he’s been busy with his film career this year, describing it as “very fruitful.” He credited the encouraging environment provided by his parents, actors Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak Shah, along with his brother, musician Imaad Shah, for fueling his creative pursuits. Shah emphasized their close relationship, stating that they are not just friends but also exceptional collaborators in the art world.
