Meet actor who signed 47 films in 11 days after blockbuster debut, lost stardom after serial flops; received help from Salman Khan after serious health complication

As a dedicated follower, I have always admired Rahul Roy’s journey in Bollywood, a journey that began with the iconic film Aashiqui. His life story is a testament to destiny, resilience, and the power of never giving up.

Entering the flashy, star-studded realm of Bollywood is no simple task for any actor. Yet, some manage to establish a unique space and win over fans’ affections with their debut movie. One such actor was Rahul Roy, who made waves in the industry with his blockbuster introduction during the 90s.

In his initial acting career, Rahul Roy first appeared in Mahesh Bhatt’s hit movie “Aashiqui” alongside newcomer Anu Aggarwal in 1990. This film earned him substantial praise and recognition. During an interview with Bollywood Hungama last year, Rahul shared that no one offered him roles for half a year following the film’s premiere. Yet, within just 11 days after that, he signed contracts for an astonishing 47 movies.

He mentioned that for a span of six months, no films were signed by him. However, within just 11 days, he managed to sign 47 movies. Adding to this, he reminisced about being compensated with Rs 30,000 per film, as these films went on to earn substantial profits at the box office. Lastly, he disclosed that a portion of his earnings would be given to Mahesh Bhatt as a token of appreciation for facilitating his successful entry into the film industry.

In my opinion, it feels like fate played a hand in Roy’s success story. Within just a few minutes of meeting Bhatt, he landed the role. Following the film’s release, an interesting anecdote unfolded when he visited Metro Cinema without any bodyguards, accompanied by Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt instead. In the same interview, he shared that the audience cheered for him and showered him with coins as soon as his character was introduced through the song “Saanson Ki Jarurat Hai Jaise.

His initial blockbuster movie was then followed by a series of films such as Ghazab Tamasha, Sapne Sajan Ke, Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee, Game, Gumrah, Majhdaar, Naseeb, and Achanak. However, none of these subsequent movies could replicate the massive success of his first film. One possible reason for their underperformance might be the audience’s high expectations for a sequel as impressive as Aashiqui.

As a devoted follower of his passion for acting, I’ve consistently witnessed Rahul’s unwavering optimism and relentless work ethic. He’s graced our television screens with roles in series such as Kaise Kahoon and Karishma-The Miracles Of Destiny. However, it wasn’t until 2006 when the controversial reality show, Bigg Boss, came into his life that his fortunes truly began to change.

Despite the show being notorious for causing uproars, Roy chose to keep his composure and watch from the sidelines. With backing from his supporters, he triumphed as the inaugural season’s champion.

Despite experiencing numerous highs and lows throughout his career, Rahul’s personal life faced challenges too at every turn. In response to these difficulties, the actor decided to step away from Bollywood and relocated to Australia with his wife Rajlaxmi Khanvilkar. It was later disclosed that he worked as a dish washer there. Unfortunately, their marriage ended in 2014, causing Rahul to return to India.

In the tumultuous year 2020, while filming LAC-Live The Battle in Ladakh, I unfortunately experienced a brain stroke, largely due to the harsh weather conditions. When I was going through my darkest hours, it was my soul sister, Priyanka Roy, and her husband, Romeer Sen, who stood by me, providing unwavering support.

Last year, during a discussion with the mentioned portal, Priyanka pointed out Nitin Kumar Gupta, the film’s director, as being responsible for her stroke. She believed that the incident could have been prevented if more care had been taken and her health condition hadn’t been overlooked. Furthermore, she disclosed that Salman Khan assisted them by covering the outstanding hospital bill discreetly.

In 2019, Rahul appeared in the Zee 5 production of Cabaret, and his movie Agra, which came out in 2023, was shown at the Cannes Film Festival’s Directors’ Fortnight the previous year.
