As I reflect upon the captivating journey of Neelam Kothari Soni, it’s evident that her life has been nothing short of a Bollywood blockbuster. From being everyone’s crush in the 80s and 90s to gracing the silver screen alongside some of Bollywood’s biggest stars, she truly lived the dream.
Back in the ’80s and ’90s, I couldn’t help but have a crush on this actress who stole everyone’s heart. She graced the silver screen alongside stars like Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Govinda, just to name a few. However, she really captured everyone’s attention when her name became entangled in a scandal that made headlines. Unfortunately, her on-screen performances started to decline, but she didn’t let that stop her. Instead, she channeled her creativity into designing stunning jewelry pieces.
Discussing none other than Neelam Kothari Soni here. She first entered the acting world at the tender age of 15 in 1984 with the film “Jawaani”. Following this, she graced our screens in movies such as Love 86, Ilzaam, Sindoor, Khudgarz, Hatya, Farz Ki Jung, Billoo Badshah, Aag Hi Aag, and numerous others.
Apart from being recognized for her roles in Sooraj Barjatya’s “Hum Saath Saath Hain” and her brief appearance in Karan Johar’s “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai”, Neelam has also taken a break from Bollywood films since 2001, with her last movie being “Kasam”. However, she made a return to the spotlight in 2020, featuring in the drama reality series titled “Fabulous Lives Of Bollywood Wives”, which was streamed on Netflix.
After leaving the world of acting behind, she shifted her focus towards jewelry design, as the fourth generation craftswoman in a lineage of diamond experts. Last year, she shared her thoughts on this new endeavor with Natural Diamonds magazine, discussing both her transition out of acting and her dive into her family’s time-honored business.
In a recent conversation, Kothari expressed, “Just as every item has an expiration date, and when quality deteriorates, it’s clear that change is necessary. I’m embarking on a fresh journey in life, fortunately, I had a contingency plan.” Additionally, the actress revealed that her fascination with diamonds stemmed from her father, as she absorbed all his knowledge. Her interest was ignited during hands-on training.
After being linked to the controversial 1998 black buck hunting incident involving Salman, Tabu, Saif Ali Khan, and Sonali Bendre while filming Sooraj Barjatya’s HSSH, the actress attracted a great deal of undesired public scrutiny.
Previously, Neelam was wedded to Rishi Sethia in a ceremony held in 2000. However, their marriage ended just months later in October of the same year. During season 3 of FLOBW, the actress disclosed that she was instructed to wear traditional Indian attire, abstain from non-vegetarian food, and alcohol. While she accepted these conditions, she was also asked to alter her personal identity.
After some time, the actress remarried Samir Soni in 2011, and they welcomed their adopted daughter, Ahana, into their family in 2013.
