In early May, word spread that NBC decided to end “Night Court” after three seasons, adding it to a list of unfortunate TV cancellations for 2025. Networks, including NBC, were working out their schedules for the upcoming season at that time. Now, with fans still grieving over its demise, the show’s lead actress, Melissa Rauch, has shared her attempts to save the series and discussed moving on since it was officially canceled.
A little over a month after Night Court ended on the 2025 TV schedule and NBC explained its cancellation, Rauch took to Instagram to share her thoughts on her show ending. She posted a series of BTS photos and used her caption to clarify why she’s “held off” on posting about the sitcom’s unexpected end, writing:
I waited until I had exhausted every possible option before announcing that Night Court will no longer continue. Growing up with the spirit of ‘Never Say Die’ from The Goonies, or perhaps just denial, made me hopeful that this unique journey wouldn’t end. However, after thoroughly exploring all available paths, it appears we must bid a temporary goodbye, or at least ‘Until next time.’
So far, the actress from The Big Bang Theory hadn’t shared anything regarding the show being canceled. Her latest post, however, was about the unexpected twist in the Night Court finale, summarizing the recently concluded season.
It appears now that we understand why she remained silent for such a duration; it seems they were attempting to sell the series in order to find it a fresh platform. This is quite common when programs get cancelled, which made it logical for Night Court to pursue such actions as well.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned. Now, Rauch is grieving the end, looking back on her time with the show, and readying herself for what’s next. She shared that no words can truly express her appreciation towards those involved in this project. After expressing gratitude to the cast and crew for their dedication, she also openly admitted that taking up the role in the Night Court reboot was a long-cherished dream realized.
Growing up, my TV was like my closest companion. So, when I had the chance to act alongside comedy greats on a stage that was once just a screen for me as a child, it felt like walking through a magical portal, an absolutely wonderful experience.
Melissa Rauch went on to describe her experience as “strolling through the legendary corridors,” and commented that each part of working on this sitcom felt incredibly surreal.
It’s evident that she deeply feels about the conclusion of her comedy, and frankly, it’s understandable. Yet, she maintains a positive outlook, and she justifies this optimism by reminiscing on the impact and enduring legacy of “Night Court”.
The original creator of Night Court, Reinhold Weege, mentioned that the courtroom doors were crucial to the show’s operation because they brought endless tales into play. I believe this is still true for Night Court today, much like it was during the 30 years between its initial ending and our beginning. The door, a symbol of constant change, welcomed an array of peculiar characters and skeptics each night at the Manhattan arraignment court, with a central workplace family that remains timeless…until we meet again.

Undeniably, it’s always disappointing when a favorite show gets cancelled, and it never fails to leave a sense of sadness. Yet, I admire Rauch’s optimism and positive outlook on the situation, even though it feels like we’ve closed the book on Night Court for good.
