As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that Metaphor: ReFantazio has left me spellbound and utterly bewildered – in the best possible way! The game’s intricate blend of magical fantasy and sci-fi elements is unlike anything I’ve ever played before.
In ReFantazio, you’ll encounter numerous fantasy elements over its 80 to 100 hours of gameplay – fairies, bat-like tribes called Eugiefs, and winged races like the Ishkia are just a few examples. However, beneath its magical exterior hides an intriguing sci-fi aspect.
Mild spoilers here for mid-game content
In the game Metaphor: ReFantazio, the most astonishing discovery I’ve made is the capacity to Teleport. This isn’t due to its sudden appearance, but rather because it seems so out of sync with a universe that offers Elf-like Roussaintes and horned Clemars. Instead, it functions as an efficient method for traveling long distances quickly, making it easy to move from location A to B swiftly.
In this guide, here’s how to Unlock and Use the Teleportation Mechanic:
Unlocking Teleportation
To unlock the ability of Teleportation, you must reach June 28th on the game’s 5-day Calendar system. This is the part where Neuras joins the crew and is the sole pilot of your trusty Gauntlet Runner.
Following a quick scene in the Engine Room, the protagonist finds himself near a peculiar wall that resembles a reactor, causing a minor electric spark. Neuras, puzzled by this unexpected modification to the Runner, recalls the time when the Prince ordered the crafting of this particular ship component.
On the following day, June 29th, you’ll receive the answers you’ve been waiting for. This device is a Teleportation machine that will transport both the crew and the Gauntlet Runner to a specific destination on the map. It functions as an immediate transporter, not affecting the progression of time or your plans.
Moving between different places, whether it be back and forth, plays a crucial role in your quest for the royal seat.
This is where the game actually opens up.
The Rules
The teleportation device belonging to the Gauntlet Runner isn’t unlimited in its capabilities. It doesn’t allow you and your group to instantaneously move across the map without some kind of restriction. Such an ability would be overpowered for a game that emphasizes strategic time management.
To successfully teleport using the device, it’s crucial that the user has previously visited or vividly imagines the destination location first. For instance, our hero can’t skip a trip to Grand Trad; he must take time to absorb its surroundings before attempting the journey. The gadget in the Gauntlet Runner resembles a mini portal that senses the user’s thoughts, making it essential to focus on the scent, sights, and sounds of the destination.
Remember, there are parts within the narrative where the teleportation device isn’t an option. It’s best not to find yourself transported to the Royal Capital when your very existence is at stake.
If you’ve used Persona 5’s quick-movement system, transportation functions in a similar manner. The main distinctions are that it doesn’t require payment or riding on any trains like the bullet trains.
By pressing the R1 key on your gamepad, or the M key on your keyboard, you can quickly travel to places you’ve previously visited. Just select your desired destination, and the teleportation mechanism will handle the rest for you.
