Michael Avenatti Resentenced to Reduced Prison Term

On Thursday, the prison term for Michael Avenatti, previously Stormy Daniels’ lawyer who was convicted of financial fraud in June 2022, was reduced from its original 14-year sentence during a resentencing hearing in California.

On Friday, a representative from the U.S. Department of Justice informed The Hollywood Reporter that US District Judge James V. Selna reduced Michael Avenatti’s prison term to approximately 11 years and 3 months on Thursday. This reduction comes following his 2022 conviction for defrauding millions of dollars from his California clients and others.

As a fervent admirer, I’m sharing the news about Michael Avenatti, who gained notoriety for advocating porn actor Daniels during Donald Trump’s first term as U.S. President. He’ll spend an additional seven years behind bars to serve his federal sentence in full, considering the time he’s already served.

This week’s resentencing of Avenatti doesn’t mark the conclusion of his legal issues. Back in February 2022, he was also found guilty for pocketing close to $300,000 from Daniels’ book earnings and deceiving multiple clients. Moreover, he tried to extort Nike, a prominent sports clothing company, which further led to fraud charges against him.

Initially, Daniels employed Avenatti as part of an effort to get out of a confidential agreement involving a $130,000 payment to a porn star. This payment was meant to prevent her from discussing publicly an alleged sexual encounter with Trump, which he denied ever taking place. Later, Avenatti used his role in representing Daniels to appear on cable news shows frequently. These appearances allowed him to become well-known for ridiculing and provoking Trump, gaining nationwide attention.

In 2024, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals overturned the initial 14-year sentence for financial fraud, paving the way for a new sentencing hearing presided over by Judge Selna at the Santa Ana courthouse, which took place on Thursday.
