Michael Rapaport: I’ve Been Canceled by Facebook, Instagram

Michael Rapaport gets called the nastiest things on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

As a film critic, I’ve found myself constantly drawn to discussions revolving around an individual’s ethnicity, specifically his Jewish heritage, which unfortunately cannot be detailed here due to certain constraints. Despite him expressing discomfort with this focus, it appears that this aspect of his identity is more accepted than the alternative in the industry.

Been there, canceled by that.

A character actor turned comedian voiced his opinion regarding Mark Zuckerberg’s promise to eliminate Facebook’s allegedly biased “fact-checking” system. This mechanism often kept controversial articles from being widely shared, particularly those that negatively impacted Democratic parties.

The Hunter Biden laptop scandal is just one high-profile example.

I’m excited to share that I believe Facebook is going to embrace X’s “community notes” approach in the future. While it’s not flawless, I think it surpasses the overly censorship-focused strategies they’ve been relying on for quite some time now.

How bad was it? And what other platforms reign in free speech? Rapaport has some answers.

In his most recent podcast, Rapaport stated that he’s currently prohibited from using Facebook and Instagram. To avoid further punishment for discussing the ban, he might need to censor himself. Additionally, he has faced threats of losing monetization or being removed entirely from these platforms.

“And what have I said? I’ve said nothing.”

He cited one example that shows how ludicrous the social media filters can be.

The most severe censorship I experienced on social media happened on January 6, 2021. He stated that if it had been ‘a certain group’ storming the Capitol, there would have been numerous casualties outside the capital.” (The omitted phrase is presumably ‘Black’.)

For 150 days, I was isolated on Facebook; they suspended my account,” he explained about the consequences he faced. Regardless of one’s viewpoint, it is not appropriate for content to be suppressed.

But it was.

Rapaport endorses Facebook’s latest policy change, as it replaces an unfair and deceptive one that frequently silenced conservative viewpoints.

Compare the response to that method with how late-night satirists like Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert reacted to Zuckerberg’s update. Instead of supporting his decision, they humorously criticized it, expressing a preference for a platform that tightly regulates speech.

It’s what their party masters demand. And they do as told.

To be honest, I’ve learned not to blindly rely on online communities. After all, it’s often the interactions with other users that can make social media a bit challenging.” – A fan’s perspective

He indicated it was another example of a tech magnate showing favoritism towards President-Elect Donald Trump, and this is a viewpoint that Kimmel also shared.

Different show. Same script.

Envision yourself as one of the richest individuals globally, choosing to declare that truth as we understand it no longer exists, all while donning a Macklemore costume from the year 2014…

Mark Zuckerberg has essentially thrown away any remaining respect he had by aligning with Donald Trump, or alternatively, he’s taking on a role similar to one of the Golden Girls.” He also mentioned this.

It seems neither star advocates for free speech. Interestingly enough, Colbert once supported the withdrawal of Dr. Seuss books from public areas.

Rapaport has experienced the feeling of being silenced or rejected. Throughout the past year, voices from the far-left have attempted to silence him in this manner. His support for Israel has provoked disapproval among groups with ties to Antifa and a strong pro-Palestinian stance.

If he wasn’t a free-speech warrior before, he sure is one now.
