In the list of the movie’s award nominations, there were several categories: Best Picture, Cynthia Erivo for Best Actress, Ariana Grande for Best Supporting Actress, Best Costume Design, and Best Original Score. Unfortunately, Jon M. Chu did not receive a nomination in the Directing category.
Indeed! We’re all filled with great joy,” Yeoh exclaimed, who had earlier won an Oscar for her performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once. “However, it’s important to note that we’re also shedding tears because Jon M. Chu, Alice Brooks – our Director of Photography – were not recognized, but the rest of us are thrilled about the recognition with Best Picture, costumes, and hair!
Later on, co-host Ana Navarro commented, “They overlooked Jon Chu twice, he deserved a nomination for ‘In the Heights,'” to which Yeoh agreed saying, “Absolutely, I concur!
This year, directors such as Jacques Audiard (also known as Emilia Pérez), Sean Baker (known as Anora), Brady Corbet (The Brutalist), Coralie Fargeat (The Substance) and James Mangold (A Complete Unknown) completed the list for the best directing category.
Wicked, derived from the popular Broadway musical, delves into the intricate bond shared by Elphaba, portrayed by Erivo (who eventually transforms into the Wicked Witch of the West), and Galinda, played by Grande (who metamorphoses into Glinda the Good Witch). Their relationship experiences a significant turning point after an incident involving the Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The movie generated over $700 million in box office earnings worldwide.
