Mick Foley Gives His Honest Thoughts On Vince McMahon's Legal Troubles

As a lifelong WWE fan who grew up watching Vince McMahon shape the wrestling world, my feelings are as complex as a WWE storyline itself. I remember the thrill of his era, the unforgettable moments he created, and the larger-than-life characters he brought to life. Yet, the allegations against him are deeply troubling and hard to ignore.

In anticipation of forthcoming WWE events and unprecedented achievements, Vince McMahon remains under investigation by the Department of Justice and is yet to stand trial for a string of troubling accusations that initially prompted his exit from the wrestling corporation. With a new Netflix series focusing on McMahon approaching, legendary wrestler Mick Foley has voiced his genuine opinions about his former employer and the predicament at hand.

At Comic-Con Northern Ireland, Foley was included in a discussion. During this talk, the subject of Vince McMahon and their professional bond was brought up. Known for his roles as Mankind, Cactus Jack, and Dude Love within WWE and WCW, Foley shared his views on the former wrestling mogul.

Despite our relationship changing after I moved from WWE to TNA for three years, I’ve always appreciated him for giving me a chance. Even though we may have our flaws, it’s essential that the positive aspects outshine the negative ones. And in Vince’s case, there were times when things seemed reversed, but I’ve witnessed him doing good deeds.

As a long-time wrestling fan, I find myself in a peculiar position when it comes to Vince McMahon. Guys like John Cena and Randy Orton echo my thoughts. We’ve had our fair share of great moments with him, but the recent allegations against him are hard to ignore. It all started after the WWE’s investigation into secret payments he made to a former employee. Despite our positive past, these claims cast a dark shadow over everything.

Further information emerged, with the woman making the complaint being unveiled as Janel Grant. The lawsuit brought forth by Grant detailing distressing acts of sexual abuse and trafficking eventually resulted in McMahon’s dismissal from the company. This also led to the termination of key figures such as John Laurinaitis, and Brock Lesnar being taken off television. Mick Foley addressed these allegations briefly and discussed how they have influenced his perspective on McMahon.

While he often made the correct choices for honest reasons, it pains me deeply that someone dear to me has been involved in questionable activities. However, I choose to reserve judgment until I gather more information. Fortunately, most of us seem to be preserving our positive memories of him, as he played a significant role in creating those moments. Therefore, I’m going to focus on appreciating him for now, rather than letting the uncertainty color my recollections.

As wrestlers reflect on Vince McMahon’s impact on the professional wrestling industry, the WWE has transitioned into a fresh era, steered by wrestling hall of famer and McMahon’s son-in-law, Paul “Triple H” Levesque. His leadership is propelling the WWE towards a new golden age for pro wrestling, characterized by packed houses at events and significant agreements such as Netflix securing the rights to Monday Night Raw and the revival of Saturday Night Main Event on NBC, starting from December.

In this contemporary WWE era, there’s optimism aplenty. However, some veteran wrestlers such as Mick Foley seem keen on reminding fans that, despite his flaws, Vince McMahon has played a pivotal role in shaping professional wrestling into the industry it is today. Regardless of what the wrestlers think, history’s verdict on him remains uncertain, with many watching closely for updates from his ongoing trial and any additional information that may emerge.

On September 25th, the Netflix documentary titled “Mr. McMahon” will be available for streaming to Netflix subscribers. If you’re intrigued by this influential figure and his extensive career in wrestling, both on-camera and off-, make sure to catch it!
