‘Mickey 17’ Trailer Kills Robert Pattinson Again (and Again)

As a die-hard fan of sci-fi and a connoisseur of Robert Pattinson‘s acting prowess, I can hardly contain my excitement for “Mickey 17”. The trailer alone is a testament to Bong Joon Ho’s masterful storytelling, promising a unique blend of action, drama, and the human condition.

To those Mickeys on their last breath, we honor you. The first trailer for Robert Pattinson’s repeated demise in the upcoming film, “Mickey 17,” by Bong Joon Ho – a highly anticipated follow-up to his Academy Award-winning masterpiece, “Parasite.

In the movie, Robert Pattinson portrays Mickey Barnes, a colonist who is considered disposable due to his frequent involvement in the colony’s riskiest tasks. These tasks are so perilous that many expendables, including him, usually meet their end, only to be resurrected using advanced human replication technology.

Edward Ashton introduced the world of ‘Mickey 7′ in his 2022 novel, focusing on Mickey Barnes’ seventh incarnation. However, in the upcoming film, the number has been escalated to 17. During CinemaCon in April, director Bong humorously remarked about this change, saying “The number signifies the times he dies, I killed him ten times more.” He went on to explain that despite being a science fiction movie, ‘Mickey 7’ is fundamentally about human experiences.

In the game I’m immersed in, I embody both Mickey 17 and Mickey 18 throughout most of the narrative. At CinemaCon, I shared that I crafted distinct personalities for these two characters. Mickey 17 is a soul weathered by life’s trials, but he finds joy in his role within this world. On the other hand, Mickey 18 is like an unruly brother, teetering on the edge of chaos.

Fans have eagerly anticipated the trailer for quite some time, as the movie was originally planned to come out in March 2024, but due to complications during post-production, it’s now scheduled for January 31, 2025 instead. This unexpected release date took many by surprise, as it means the film will miss the awards season after the success of “Parasite”.

Besides Mark Ruffalo, Steven Yeun, Naomie Ackie, and Toni Collette are featured in the movie. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter for this project, Ackie revealed, “This role involves intense emotions and is quite distinct from anything I’ve tackled before. Frankly, I’m both anxious to see it and hopeful that I managed to strike the right balance.
