gives fans a disappointing if hopeful update on his Exorcist movie.

According to the renowned director, the highly-awaited Exorcist film has not yet begun production as previously speculated. Flanagan further explained that this decision was mainly due to his focus on the upcoming Carrie reboot, causing its removal from Universal Pictures’ 2026 release schedule. He reassured fans by stating, “It won’t be coming out next March,” but added, “Don’t worry though, there’s no reason for concern.

Believer” prompted the studio to alter their plans for the entire franchise. At that time, it was announced that the movie would not serve as a sequel to “The Exorcist: Believer,” but instead offer a fresh perspective and an entirely new storyline within the “Exorcist” universe.

Back in June, it was announced that the release date for Flanagan’s movie adaptation of “The Exorcist” had been set for March 13th, 2026. This Friday-the-13th release date seemed appropriate then, but there’s been no news about the film’s plot or cast. Flanagan mentioned that the creative team was deliberately challenging themselves in production, placing a premium on creating something fresh and innovative to push the project forward. He expressed his enthusiasm for the chance to create something unique within the franchise, while still respecting its legacy, rather than relying solely on nostalgia.
