A rising talent named Miles Caton aspires to portray a renowned Marvel superhero character. In his first major film role, Caton appears in “Sinners” as Sammie “Preacher Boy” Moore, the youthful cousin of the Smoke Stack twins played by Michael B. Jordan. Since childhood, Moore has demonstrated exceptional musical abilities, and at 20 years old, he’s one of the leading stars in the top-grossing movie in North America and one of the most critically acclaimed films of the last ten years.
It appears that Caton may become quite sought-after, yet he seems to have a specific role in mind. In an interview with Variety, when asked about the movie genre he’s interested in, Caton expressed his fondness for action films, particularly those associated with Marvel. When probed about his preferred superhero character, Caton hinted at none other than Miles Morales, more famously known as Spider-Man.
I have a soft spot for humor, thrilling action sequences, and exciting adventures. I’m quite fond of Marvel productions – they truly set the bar high, reaching for the very best in entertainment…and as for my name, it just happens to be Miles.
When Will Miles Morales Join the MCU?
Miles Morales, a character introduced by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Sara Pichelli in 2011, debuted in issue #4 of Ultimate Comics: Fallout. After the demise of Peter Parker, Miles took on the mantle of Spider-Man in the Ultimate Universe. His popularity skyrocketed, leading to his integration into the primary Marvel Comics universe post-Secret Wars, where he now coexists with the original Spider-Man, Peter Parker. Many people are familiar with Miles Morales from the PlayStation Spider-Man video games and the two Spider-Verse movies, with the next installment, Beyond the Spider-Verse, due for release in June 2027.
Caton harbors ambitions of becoming part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though it may not happen right away. Miles Morales, on the other hand, might face a steeper climb. Although fans have longed for Morales to assume the Spider-Man mantle from Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, the announcement of Spider-Man: Brand New Day hints at new developments in Peter Parker’s storyline. This could mean that it might be a while before we see Miles Morales in live-action, even though he was hinted at in Spider-Man: Homecoming back in 2017. If Miles Morales is introduced after Avengers: Secret Wars, Caton would be 22 by then and potentially past the age to play the character. Additionally, Morales is Afro-Latino, so Marvel and Sony will need to take great care in selecting an actor to portray this iconic hero.
With Ryan Coogler, director of “Sinners,” set to return for “Black Panther 3,” Caton finds himself in a prime position to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If he doesn’t, it’s highly probable that his impressive critical and audience acclaim from “Sinners” has placed him high on Marvel’s casting list, given his enthusiasm for the franchise. Although “Nova” is currently on hold, Caton would be an excellent fit for Richard Rider. Additionally, he could potentially fill several X-Men roles once Marvel Studios decides to reboot the mutant team post-“Avengers: Secret Wars.
