Discussing fan suggestions for roles in movies: Occasionally, these ideas are spot-on, like when the public successfully advocated for Ben Affleck to play Batman in DC films, or when Ryan Reynolds managed to bring Henry Cavill into the role of Wolverine, albeit briefly in “Deadpool and Wolverine”. However, fan casting can also fail or stall before it gets off the ground. For instance, the notion of Harry Styles in “Eternals” and all the chatter about Taylor Swift playing Dazzler are examples of this. Nonetheless, a name keeps surfacing as an ideal fit for the forthcoming Marvel movie centered on the X-Men, and I genuinely think it’s a brilliant choice.
The X-Men film hasn’t been scheduled as of now, but with Hugh Jackman reprising his role as Wolverine and Kelsey Grammer returning as Beast, it appears that a team-up movie is imminent. Furthermore, there’s been buzz online suggesting Disney Channel alum Miley Cyrus for the role of Rogue in a live-action X-Men movie.
And I think she’d be perfect.
Some Marvel characters offer flexibility for interpretation, like Captain America who can be portrayed differently yet still embody the character’s essence. However, the X-Men are distinctly individualistic; each mutant hero brings their own unique traits and idiosyncrasies to the team, such as Rogue. She’s powerful but sensitive, headstrong, and sassy, qualities that Miley Cyrus perfectly embodies with her gravelly voice, Southern accent, and bold performance. As Keith Urban once put it about Miley Cyrus: Her voice is like an ashtray, and that’s a compliment. Voice actress Lenore Zann accurately portrayed this in the animated X-Men ’97 series, giving off strong Miley Cyrus vibes when I watch those clips.
It’s possible that due to her fame as Hannah Montana, High School Musical actress, or Billy Ray Cyrus’ daughter, some people underestimate Miley Cyrus. However, she is known for her unique style and often makes headlines for various reasons. If given the chance, I believe she could excel in a significant Hollywood role, particularly as Rogue. She possesses a self-assured demeanor, an edge, and a bit of sassiness that perfectly matches Rogue’s character.
Apart from the exciting developments with Cyrus, here’s another point to consider: She’s 32 years old. This age is perfect for a franchise looking to cast new faces because Marvel Studios usually wants their actors to embody their characters for at least ten years, if not more. The MCU can no longer rely solely on veterans like Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Hugh Jackman, and Chris Evans, who are 59, 76, 56, and 43 respectively, to carry the weight of the comic universe. It’s high time for fresh talent. I believe we’ll see this shift when the new X-Men team in the MCU comes together. Personally, I’d be thrilled to see Miley Cyrus step into the role of Rogue, as many Marvel fans have suggested.
In just a few weeks, the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film titled “Captain America: Brave New World” will be hitting cinemas nationwide on Valentine’s Day (February 14). So, don’t forget to secure your tickets!
