Mind-Blowing Severance Finale Twist: Is Helly’s Future a Game-Changer?

⚠️ Major plot twists are coming up in the second season of ‘Severance’, currently available for streaming on Apple TV Plus. Be warned!

Approximately two weeks have passed since the “Severance” finale aired, and I find myself unable to shake this series from my thoughts. In fact, I’ve found myself going back to the beginning of the show, eagerly anticipating any news about Season 3. (I can hardly believe I wasn’t as excited for Season 2 initially due to the long wait!) And as I replay the final scenes in my mind, I feel compelled to share a theory regarding Helly that I’ve been mulling over.

Do you recall the time when Mark S. shockingly left Gemma and me for Helly? With all the intricacies of this love triangle weighing heavily on my mind, I’ve been pondering over potential developments. It seems like it’s high time we discuss this situation further to better understand where things might lead. Let’s explore the possibilities.

And in the spirit of the show, please enjoy each section of this article equally.

I Can’t Stop Thinking About How The Severance Finale Left Things With Mark And Gemma

Throughout the season, I’ve found myself pondering the enigmatic relationship between Gemma and Lumon, as well as Cold Harbor. My curiosity reached its peak when trying to decipher her connection with both entities. However, my questions were finally laid to rest when I realized that Mark’s wife had been used in some capacity as a test subject for severance science. It appears Lumon is experimenting with the idea of using severance as a means to expunge traumatic memories from an individual’s mind. Intriguingly, Gemma’s last room (out of 24), “Cold Harbor,” directly referenced her most profound trauma: the heartache stemming from infertility and losing Mark, as she was tasked with constructing a crib identical to the one Mark had intended to build before her supposed demise.

After witnessing Gemma and Mark endure so much suffering due to being separated during the series, it was a joyful moment to see their reunion, hinting at their escape from Lumon’s control. But then, Severance took a twisted turn by having Mark transform back into his innie almost instantly and fleeing from his own wife to join hands with Helly and seemingly disappear together… As for where they might be going, it’s unclear, and according to creator Dan Erickson speaking to Variety, there seems to be no definite plan in place yet.

After Helena And Helly Have Both Had Sexy Times With Mark, I Have A Season 3 Theory

Currently, I’m deeply saddened for Gemma, as she was reunited with her husband only to see him flee once more, leaving her alone again. Conversely, Mark S.’s situation is clearer to me. He appears to be infatuated with Helly R., living in a world that revolves around her and Lumon’s floor. By running away together, they are prioritizing themselves over Lumon and striving for their survival. However, there’s another aspect of this situation that keeps nagging at me: Mark S. has been romantically involved with both Helly R. and Helena Eagan recently… and I have a feeling the inner personalities (innies) might not have had any sex education classes.

I believe that Helly/Helena might become pregnant during Season 3, which would add another layer of complexity. If this happens, it could be Innie Mark’s child, and it would strengthen his argument for living independently instead of merging with Outie Mark again.

It Would Break Me If This Happened And Gemma Found Out

If Helena were to conceive a child with Mark, it would significantly exacerbate the complicated situation involving Gemma, as Mark and Gemma’s troubled past was heavily centered around their infertility issues. It is difficult to imagine a more convoluted turn for this love triangle, especially if Gemma becomes involved in trying to win Mark back while discovering his new partner, Helena, attempting to start a family with him – a stark reminder of the life they were unable to create together.

There are several indications suggesting that the plot of Severance Season 3 might delve deeper into the theme of parenthood and family relationships. Firstly, the appearance of a Kier baby in the title credits for Season 2 hints at this connection. Secondly, it’s intriguing to consider that the same individual who managed Gemma’s rooms at Lumon was also her fertility doctor. Lastly, Mark’s sister had a baby in Season 1. Given these observations, I find it highly unlikely that Season 3 would not expand upon this theme further!

Plus, I Can’t Shake How Helena Seems Jealous Of Her Innie

One more aspect I’d like to discuss revolves around Helena Eagan, often referred to as Helly. Throughout Season 2, the show subtly developed an intriguing dynamic between Helena and her counterpart at Lumon, Mark S. The scene where Helena repeatedly revisits the moment she and Mark kiss at Lumon is particularly significant this season. Moreover, it appears that the Eagan heir isn’t overly fond of her existence and seems to harbor feelings for him during their undercover encounters in the early episodes of Season 2.

Considering this situation, I’m concerned that not only Helly R., but also Helena, may cause further issues for Outie Mark and Gemma. If Helena were to become pregnant with Mark’s child, she might step in (if possible) and potentially worsen the situation by pushing for the pregnancy and pressuring Outie Mark into it against his will.

As a cinephile, I can’t help but notice the enigmatic Kier-related cult vibe surrounding Lumon Industries. It strikes me that Helena’s father might be driven by a desire to maintain the essence of Kier through the baby, perhaps even hoping for a reincarnation. In one of the finale’s scenes, when Helena’s father conversed with Helly R, he emphasized her resemblance to Kier, and I can imagine him and “the board” showing great interest in the new Baby Eagan. Not to mention, Lumon’s potential scientific curiosity regarding the first Innie pregnancy adds another layer to this captivating narrative.

Here’s another way to phrase it: Right now, I find myself pondering over the ending of Severance. In the meantime, check out TopMob’s season 2 interviews with the cast of Severance for some insights, while we wait for more updates.
