As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the world of The Office, I must admit that Mindy Kaling’s revelation about her connection to Michael Scott is nothing short of amusing and relatable. Just like many of us who have watched the show, I too find myself drawing parallels between my life and the characters we’ve grown to love.
Mindy Kaling is in her Michael Scott era.
On The Drew Barrymore Show on Friday, the actress shared that she identifies with the character played by Steve Carell in The Office, after having welcomed three children of her own – daughters Katherine and Anne, and son Spencer.
Kaling reminisced about the episode where Scott shared his childhood dream: “He told a TV audience that when he grew up, he wanted to have 100 children, so he could make 100 friends, with none of them able to refuse being his buddy.
Kaling, the writer and actor on the NBC sitcom, also mentioned that she penned the particular episode at a time when the thought of becoming a parent was completely off her radar, as she was only 25 years old.
She stated, “I found it amusing and tragic that an adult might want children just for companionship.” Now, let me share a personal experience – I have two daughters, and I eagerly look forward to the day when they grow up so we can be friends together.
Kaling playfully stated, ‘I’m Michael Scott,’ but what he really meant was he wanted them to feel as if they were friends in their twenties with him.

For eight seasons, Mallika (Kaling) portrayed Kelly Kapoor in ‘The Office’, bidding farewell to the series in 2012 as she moved on to work with ‘The Mindy Project’. The creator of ‘The Sex Lives of College Girls’ has hinted that they might bring back Kaling’s character if the show is remade.
The actress admitted to People magazine in May that it’s been so long since she played Kelly Kapoor that she feels she needs to get back into character again, stating, ‘I’d almost forget the method!’ But she wonders, ‘How has Kelly evolved over time? What would she be like now?’
“For that group of people, I would definitely — I’d be open to it,” she added.
Although a new installment of “Office” isn’t in development, as we earlier learned from The Hollywood Reporter, there’s an upcoming comedy series set for Peacock. This unnamed show is jointly created by Greg Daniels, who worked on “The Office”, and Michael Koman, known for “Nathan for You”. In the cast are Domhnall Gleeson (“About Time”, “Ex-Machina”) and Sabrina Impacciatore (“The White Lotus”). The series revolves around a struggling historic Midwestern newspaper that’s trying to regain its footing with the help of volunteer reporters, as per the official synopsis.
