As a seasoned movie critic with over three decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the upcoming Netflix series, “Missing You,” based on Harlan Coben‘s 2014 novel, has piqued my interest significantly. With a career spanning across various continents and genres, I’ve seen enough thrillers to know that this one is shaping up to be a real gem.

Netflix has revealed fresh snapshots from the upcoming thriller, “Missing You,” which is due for release in 2025. This series is a limited production that represents Harlan Coben’s latest partnership with the streaming platform, following successful shows such as “Stay Close,” “Fool Me Once,” and “The Stranger.” Rosalind Eleazar portrays Detective Kat Donovan, who reconnects with an old lover online and finds herself entangled in a sinister plot.

Two New Harlan Coben Series Adaptations Announced for Netflix

Earlier this year, Netflix announced that Harlan Coben’s “Missing You” and “Run Away” would be the ninth and tenth TV adaptations of his books. These projects were given the go-ahead following the success of “Fool Me Once,” which amassed 61 million views in just two weeks. In a statement, Netflix expressed, “Coben collaborates with screenwriters from various countries to bring his novels to life on screen, with adaptations already available in four languages.” Fans can look forward to “Missing You” carrying Coben’s signature plot twists and suspense. Here’s the official summary:

11 years ago, Detective Kat Donovan’s beloved fiancé, Josh, mysteriously vanished, and she hasn’t had any contact with him since. Recently, while scrolling through a dating app, she encounters his face once more, causing her world to shatter anew. The unexpected return of Josh compels her to revisit the enigma surrounding her father’s murder and uncover hidden truths about her past that have long been buried.

Filming for the series “Missing You” began in Spring 2024 and concluded by August. Unlike the novel, which is set in New York City, the show has moved the story to the United Kingdom, with filming happening primarily around Manchester and North West England. Regarding the production, Plummer expressed: “I adore Manchester. We’ve traversed quite a bit of ground, we’ve filmed at many locations, even Sefton Park! On our first day, we were freezing cold in just crop tops, participating in a yoga class. I have a feeling that visually, this will be a stunning series to watch.

In the role of an executive producer, Coben collaborates with Nicola Shindler, Richard Fee, Danny Brocklehurst, and Victoria Asare-Arche for the production of “Missing You,” under Quay Street Productions (a subsidiary of ITV Studios). The much-awaited series is slated for a 2025 release on Netflix, although an exact premiere date has yet to be confirmed. There have been whispers that it may debut in January.

Simultaneously, Harlan Coben’s novel “Run Away” revolves around a father’s desperate quest to find his wayward daughter. This journey leads him into a treacherous underworld, uncovering hidden truths that could forever shatter his family. Unfortunately, details about its production are still undisclosed.
