Mission Impossible 8 Breaks Franchise Record with 2h51m Runtime

Fans of “Mission: Impossible” should consider using the restroom first before settling in, as the running time for the eighth film in the series is said to have been disclosed, making it a new record-holder.

As reported by a reliable source, “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” lasts an impressive 2 hours and 51 minutes (or 171 minutes). This is a significant increase of 55% compared to the original Mission: Impossible film from 1996, which was only 110 minutes long. The running times for the other films in the extended action-spy franchise are as follows: 124 minutes for “Mission: Impossible 2”, 126 minutes for “Mission: Impossible III”, 133 minutes for “Ghost Protocol”, 131 minutes for “Rogue Nation”, 147 minutes for “Fallout”, and 163 minutes for the most recent film, “Dead Reckoning”. Notably, with the exception of “Rogue Nation” from 2015, each subsequent Mission: Impossible movie has grown longer in runtime as the series progresses.

It might be surprising for some to know that Tom Cruise’s longest film isn’t Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, but rather Magnolia by Paul Thomas Anderson, with a running time of 188 minutes. The Final Reckoning does hold the second-longest spot, and when paired with Dead Reckoning, fans will need to set aside approximately 334 minutes to follow Ethan Hunt and his team as they battle against the rogue AI, The Entity, in a two-part Mission: Impossible saga.

Mission: Impossible 8 Could Set Another Franchise Record

The upcoming movie ‘The Final Reckoning’ isn’t just aiming to surpass the opening records of the ‘Mission: Impossible’ franchise, but it’s currently forecasted to set a new high. As per Quorum’s predictions, ‘Dead Reckoning’ is expected to open with more than $61 million, which was the total earned by ‘Fallout’ in 2018. However, it’s worth noting that ‘The Final Reckoning’ suffered lower earnings due to releasing close to the global phenomenon ‘Barbenheimer’. In contrast, ‘Fallout’ had a higher opening than ‘Dead Reckoning’, despite being released earlier.

As a devoted cinephile, I can’t help but express my excitement about Christopher McQuarrie returning to direct the highly anticipated film, The Final Reckoning, having already masterminded the last three installments. Initially, there were whispers that we might be witnessing the final chapter with Dead Reckoning and The Final Reckoning. However, both McQuarrie and the actor have since clarified their earlier statements, leaving fans in a state of eager anticipation. The actor himself hinted that we should “see the movie” to find out if this sequel will indeed mark the end of Ethan Hunt’s thrilling saga.

In addition to Tom Cruise, familiar faces from previous Mission: Impossible installments such as Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Henry Czerny, Angela Bassett, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, and others are set to return for the eighth film. Mariela Garriga, Henry Czerny, Shea Whigham, Greg Tarzan Davis, Charles Parnell, Frederick Schmidt, Holt McCallany, Janet McTeer, Nick Offerman, Hannah Waddingham, and Katy O’Brian complete the impressive cast.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning will be released in theaters on May 23.
