‘MobLand’: A Must-See for Tom Hardy Fans

In a foray into the realm of organized crime, filmmaker Guy Ritchie is set to unveil his new Paramount+ series titled “MobLand”. The crime-centric show boasts an all-star cast featuring Tom Hardy, Helen Mirren, and Pierce Brosnan. This Paramount+ production revolves around two rival criminal families in London whose illicit activities span the globe. Each family aims to seize control within the international crime syndicate and ascend as the leader of the global organization, resulting in conflict that escalates into violence.

As a film enthusiast myself, I take the helm as director and executive producer for this captivating series, partnered by Chris Hardy, Keith Cox, Nina L. Diaz, David C. Glasser, Jez Butterworth, Kris Thykier, Ivan Atkinson, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, Dean Baker, and David Hutkin. The brilliant Ronan Bennett, creator of the British crime series “Top Boy” and producer/writer of the Peacock’s TV adaptation of “The Day of the Jackal” featuring Eddie Redmayne, contributes to the scriptwriting process for this project.

After the success of his 2024 Netflix series “The Gentlemen,” which featured Theo James, Ritchie is embarking on a new television venture called “MobLand.” Notably, “The Gentlemen” was an adaptation of Ritchie’s 2019 film bearing the same name, starring Matthew McConaughey and Charlie Hunnam. The series was granted a second season towards the end of 2024. Here’s what you should know about Guy Ritchie’s much-anticipated return to television.

Here’s What You Need To Know About ‘MobLand’

The struggle for power intensifies when two rival crime families engage in a conflict that could bring down entire empires. In the midst of this chaos stands Harry Da Souza, a cunning ‘fixer’ who understands the delicate balance of loyalties amidst conflicting forces“. The series promises to be filled with tension as boundaries are pushed for the sake of unimaginable power.

Initially known as “The Donovans”, the crime drama later became titled “MobLand”. This series was initially planned as a British spin-off of the 2013 Showtime series, “Ray Donovan”, which featured Liev Schreiber in the lead role. The original show ran for seven seasons until 2020 and was followed by a movie, “Ray Donovan: The Movie” in 2022. However, after careful deliberation, the creators decided to make changes to the storyline so that it could function independently. Consequently, the final product is not connected to the 2013 franchise but stands as an independent series on its own.

In this show, we have Hardy, Brosnan, and Mirren joined by Paddy Considine portraying Kevin Harrigan, Lara Pulver as Bella Harrigan, Joanne Froggatt as Jan Da Souza, Anson Boon as Eddie Harrigan, Mandeep Dhillon as Seraphina Harrigan, and Geoff Bell as Richie Stevenson. Supporting actors include Jasmine Jobson as Zosia, Alex Fine as Donnie, Daniel Betts as Brendan Harrigan, Lisa Dwan as O’Hara, and Emily Barber as Alice. This Paramount+ series marks a reunion for Oscar nominee Hardy and Ritchie, who previously collaborated on the 2008 crime thriller “Rock N’ Rolla”. In this new project, they are working together to bring an engrossing organized crime story to the streaming platform.
