Modern Luxury Meets Natural Beauty at the Blue Ridge House

Architectural firm Olson Kundig has designed the Blue Ridge House, a beautiful residence in Delaplane, Virginia that harmoniously fits within its natural surroundings. Situated on a hilltop, the house offers panoramic views of undulating vineyards and the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains, showcasing the breathtaking landscape. The home’s exterior boasts corten steel siding, which gradually acquires a rustic reddish hue, allowing the structure to blend effortlessly with its surroundings and giving the impression that it has sprouted organically from the land.

The house has been arranged over two floors to cater to the family’s habits. The lower level, nestled into the slope, houses a personal wine collection, showcasing the owners’ enthusiasm for vineyard cultivation. Meanwhile, the upper level focuses on a generously sized kitchen, which serves as the home’s core, making it perfect for family events. Adjacent to the kitchen is an expansive living room, followed by a covered porch, a master suite, and a children’s wing, providing both communal and private areas.

The expansive glass facades offer panoramic vistas of the sprawling 92-acre vineyard, with design elements such as a towering 20-foot metal gate and a sliding barn door fostering seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces. This versatile setup allows the residence to accommodate various activities while preserving a robust bond with nature.

Located close to the main residence, an outdoor pool and a guest house offer extra living areas. These spaces are equipped with functional features such as Murphy beds and mobile storage solutions, ensuring flexibility in their usage.
