Monster Hunter Wilds crashing issues the only thing holding back a historic success

The action-adventure game, “Monster Hunter Wilds,” has been released and is making waves on every platform, particularly Steam. Yet, its success is being hampered by a multitude of performance and technical glitches that are preventing it from reaching the heights of one of the top games of 2025.

Based on SteamDB data, “Monster Hunter: Wilds” attracted more than 1.3 million players at its peak, outperforming games like Valve’s “Dota 2” and the 2022 Game of the Year, “Elden Ring.” With predictions of even higher numbers over the weekend, it’s clear that “Wilds” is a triumph for Capcom and another outstanding addition to the enduring “Monster Hunter” franchise. However, like many popular new releases, “Wilds” has been marred by performance issues on its PC version—issues severe enough that only 47% of players have left positive reviews on Steam, placing it in the “Mixed” category. Players have reported various problems, including crashes and instability, and are eagerly waiting for Capcom to address these issues as soon as possible.

In a discontented response, one Steam player expressed their frustration over the increasing demands of new games, stating that “It’s preposterous” as they also reported similar performance problems with World, comparable to Capcom’s latest release. Another player echoed this sentiment, labeling the game as embodying the worst aspects of PC optimization in 2025. A third user described the title as running like “mud,” and these complaints are not limited to those using older hardware. Even players with top-of-the-line graphics cards and CPUs are encountering similar issues, such as low-resolution models, frequent freezes and crashes, and dismal average FPS.

After receiving player feedback regarding various issues, Capcom has provided solutions for troubleshooting and fixing some of these problems. Here’s what they suggest:

1. Make sure your system drivers and operating system are updated.
2. Install the latest version of DirectX on your computer.
3. Add the game as an exception to your anti-virus software.
4. Join Capcom’s dedicated troubleshooting thread on Steam to report any issues you encounter, so they can be addressed promptly.

In recent times, it’s become quite common for highly anticipated AAA games to face performance issues upon release, something that wasn’t as prevalent in the past. While it might be argued that contemporary games aren’t much better than their predecessors from the golden age of gaming, it’s important to consider the capabilities of our future hardware in 2025. With the power at our disposal today, there’s little room for excuses about modern titles not running smoothly on high-end systems. However, I wouldn’t expect any significant improvements to come anytime soon.
