Fans of Monster Hunter Wilds for PC have found an unusual feature: they can play the game as if it were a PS1 title in retro style! Humorously speaking, Capcom’s newest RPG has faced criticism due to poor performance and optimization issues, based on user and critic feedback.
As a gamer, I’ve been swept up in the thrill of breaking records with Wilds, a game that’s seen over a million players online simultaneously on Steam. However, my gaming experience is often disrupted by technical hiccups on PC, as I frequently see fellow gamers voicing their frustrations about these issues on social media.
Frequent criticisms often revolve around contrasting the performance of the beta version with that of the final product. Interestingly, in many instances, the test demo functioned smoother, while the full game was marred by numerous technical concessions, reminiscent of the infamous glitches experienced in Assassin’s Creed Unity.
Digital Foundry’s tech reviewers have recommended caution for those considering playing Monster Hunter World on PC, especially users with less powerful GPUs or 8GB of video memory. It’s advisable to avoid the PC version if you fall into this category as it might not run smoothly.
Upon running the game on both Nvidia RTX 4060 and 4070 graphics cards with high-resolution textures, Digital Foundry observed an unexpected issue: not only were the textures of poor quality, but the game experienced frequent stuttering and persistent pop-ups. Digital Foundry emphasized that they weren’t aiming to strain the GPU; instead, they used the default settings suggested by the game itself.
In the testing process, a Ryzen 7 9800X3D was employed, which exacerbates these problems significantly. The DF reviewer, in fact, reduced the textures to their lowest setting, demonstrating that even in sparsely populated areas with minimal NPC density, the frame rate remained erratic.
Due to these problems, the game’s Steam users have responded by lowering its overall rating through negative reviews, which currently stands at Mixed, with just 47% of them being favorable.
